Can anyone give me a walkthrough, or any kind of help in this mission?I cannot beat id for the life of me.I'm always getting shot down by either the Strella near the T-80's, or the Tunguska(s) after.I'm always pretty much loaded down with Mavericks, but I can't ever seem to get past these guys. It's getting really frustrating.Thanks.

I assume you are talking about A-10 Campaign Mission 4 "Support NATO Cavalry".
Keep far enough South so that the Tunguska's, TOR's and the KUB are not a threat. If you keep high enough (10,000ft above the level of the terrain) then the IR missiles fired by Strela, Igla cannot get to you. This mission has the targets marked (with the diamond in the HUD) so the ground fog should not stop you bombing them. If you wait till the target T-80 tanks have stopped (about 15 or so mins into the mission) then you can easily bomb them with Mk-20's from high altitude and get all or most of them. Save the Mav's for finishing off any you miss with the bombs. Of course it is more challenging to bomb them while they are still moving and use some Kentucky windage to allow for them moving..... Be careful of your heading when you come off the target so you do not stray North into SAM range. Be careful of your height so you do not stray into IR missile range. Take as long as you need to do this mission, there are no enemy fighters, you have lots of fuel, there are no extra marks for completing the mission quickly. Sorry Death, you lose! It was Professor Plum.... |

Thanks Brit...that would be the mission in question.Sounds like a plan to me, but sometimes, even when I can take down all the T-80's, my waypoints that take me home take me right over the SAMs and Tunguskas.Even when I hit the ~ key to switch waypoints, the ones I skip to bring me in the same general direction...right over the SAMs.Would climbing to 10,000 before I continue homeward help, or does being that high matter when I'm directly above them? Thanks.

jetguy06, BRD has given some excellent advice. Yes, staying above 10,000' AGL will get you over the IR SAMs, but those Tunguskas and Tor's will still nail your butt at that altitude. Best to keep those guys outside the inner ring on your RHAW. Your waypoints are there for reference only, if you expect to survive, you'll have to deviate when the tactical situation dictates. Remember that its 10,000' AGL though, not necessarily what you see on your HUD. Your HUD, above 2,500' AGL, is going to be showing barometric altitude. So, you could be flying along, just above 10,000' as indicated on your HUD, and an SA-9 or SA-13 parked on a road on a 4'000 foot mountain could still kill you. I usually make my hard deck 13,000' barometric, and cruise somewhere above that in an area with MANPADs. The radar-guided systems will see you, but the beauty of it is, you can see them too, and know where not to go.
