Whenever I play one of the Su-27 campaigns, my radar has a hard time locking on to targets, or even detecting them even though AWACS is giving me support. Sometimes I can't get a target onto my MFD even though RWR indicates they're approaching head on, and worse, when I do have a lock onto a target, many times they'll simply dissapear from the radar once they start going evasive, making the R-27 useless.
I fly the Su-27 and Mig-29A. Are these problems bugs or do the radars of these aircraft have these problems in real life? |

As the target changes his altitude- you'll have to adjust your scan cone elevation in order to keep your beam on him. In fact- you'll have to aggressively change your scan elevation & sweep to find them in the first place. Once you have a lock, you can see his speed above your speed. and his altitude above your altitude on your HUD. The "RWR" is the initial contact tool. It will generally give you relative bearing, range,(by way of signal strength) and his altitude relative to yours.
Keep in mind that the detection range is far greater than the range that you can lock him with your TDC. The dash on your HUD can't always be "bugged" with your TDC the instant you see it. (about 64km max on the HDD to establish lock) It's a good idea to adjust the zoom on the HDD to best fit the aspect of the fight. (zoom in as he gets closer) Even after a TDC lock, the "LA" is not neccessarily ready to go, nor would you always want to fire immediately upon clearance. Some aircraft have really NASTY jukeboxes (electronic jamming pods) on them. You'll simply have to re-lock them or switch to heat. AI aircraft that are attacking you will attempt to match your altitude. Need help? Click sig for Kon's *NOOB FRIENDLY* LOMAC site Click HERE for LOMAC FAQ's. I thought that the Su-27's radar automatically scanned it's entire zone. At least that's what it seemed to do in 2.5.
Thanks for the adivse. quote: |

You would be concidered lucky if you picked up a bandit on your first radar sweep, and the only way this is going to happen (experience ive only seen in mig or su)is if you are within 2000 meters relative altitude or each other and within 128 kms range with direct line of sight. Its a little different in the F-15 as you can specify what altitude(0-30'000 feet, slewable) of the area you want to scan. Its the same principle regardless, but this is how its done. You scan one sector at a time, elevation permitting.
What I am trying to learn is how to hunt without the use of the radar, but the use of the RWR and eos/slave mode. You can master this, then you are pretty much untouchable, as they will never know where you are at. If you intend on eating lead paint chips, bring salsa. |

heh.. well At least you're trying the search first.
You'll have to be more specific than that. Not working at all- or you just can't find anyone? If it's the latter- there are a hundred things you could be doing wrong. Need help?
