HI. NEED HELP WITH MISSION EDITOR. 2 THINGS. (1) HOW DO YOU MAKE 1 PLANE ESCORT ANOTHER? MEANING, HOW DO YOU MAKE E.G. SU-27 FOLLOW AND PROTECT AWACS?
(2) HOW DO YOU MAKE E.G. AWACS, FOLLOW WAYPOINTS IN A LOOP (KEEP GOING ROUND AND ROUND AND THEN AFTER A TIME LAND OR DO SOMETHING ELSE). THANKS. |

Check out the thread linked above for a bunch of general help on using the ME (Mission Editor). As for your specific questions.... 1) Set up an AWACS as normal, including whatever waypoints you want it to use. Now set up a 2nd flight in the same group as your AWACS which is the 1st flight in the group. Look at the AIRGROUP PLANNING menu (I've put an example below) you can see that just below the SIDE (ie country) there is a line that says, FLIGHT <> 1 OF <> 1 Use the righthand <> buttons to change it to "OF 2". This creates a 2nd flight in the group. This flight will follow the same waypoints as you already set up for the 1st flight in the group (the AWACS) but the 2nd flight will fly about a mile behind the 1st. You can use the lefthand <> buttons to swap between the flights. Use the lefthand <> buttons to set it to look like this "2 OF 2". Now change the aircraft type to be Su-27, and set the TASK to be ESCORT. When set to escort, it will stay with the GROUP until it is threatened. Then it will attack the threat, returning to its escort duties when finished. I can't remember at what distance it will engage a threat. You can experiment to find that out. If you want a pair of Su-27's, then use the <> buttons on the PILOT line to create a 2nd pilot in the same flight. 2) Following a loop. Set a waypoint (eg waypoint 1) to have a TYPE of Turning Point and an ACTION of BeginLoop. Set another waypoint (eg waypoint 2) to have a TYPE of Turning Point and an ACTION of EndLoop. Now your AI aircraft will loop forever between Wp 1 and Wp 2 until they get low on fuel and then they will land. If you want a group to stay up almost forever, then you might add a tanker and make the group consist of 3 flights, flight 1 = AWACS, flight 2 = tanker, flight 3 = escort fighters capable of refuelling. So a Russian group might be A-50, IL-78M, pair of Su-33. A USAF group might be E-3A, KC-10A, pair of F-15. A US Navy group might be E-2C, S-3B, pair of F-18. Sorry Death, you lose! It was Professor Plum.... |
