Q:
I'm a little confused by all the different LOMAC versions I read about. What's the deal?

A:
LOMAC 1.0- original lock on. Developed (partially) by Eagle Dynamics, published by Ubi

1.01- Free patch

1.02- Another free patch. Mercifully- Ubi is now out of the picture.

1.1- "Flaming Cliffs" A PAYWARE add on & patch independently released by the developers of all LOMAC versions & patches- Eagle Dynamics. Features a HUGE number of fixes for existing users and a new flyable- the SU-25T Frogfoot with an advanced flight model. Can be purchased by download or in another bumbling Ubi-sponsored project called "Lock On Gold" Not surprisingly- this release was initially FUBAR. NOTE: Evolved is no longer replacing defective disks. Beware of buying this title from individuals (like on Ebay, etc) Confirm that disk#2 works before giving up your money.

1.11- The free patch to owners of the paid add on.

1.12b- Another free patch. (released 2/20/06)

Lock ON "Black Shark"is a new stand alone game. It is NOT part of LOMAC and cannot be merged, added to, etc.

Q:
How do I buy "Flaming Cliffs"?

A:

You can download it here.

Try ebay or amazon (USED- CAREFUL! SEE NOTES ABOVE! RE: EVOLVED GAMES

Q:
Where/ how do I fly online?

A:

The first thing to understand is that your version of LOMAC MUST match the host's version. If you have vanilla LOMAC 1.00-1.02- (this is typical if you just got the game) You won't be able to fly in the rooms that use "Flaming Cliffs" with the latest patch- 1.12.

If you want to have the very best online experience -you need to upgrade to "Flaming cliffs." "FC" not only opens the door to the vast majority of online pilots- but the game itself is dramatically different. The very BEST place to fly online is the Hyperlobby.

Yes- flying v1.02 online is possible, but you're wasting time & energy if you stay there long. There have been so many changes to the different planes you'll literally be practicing and learning the WRONG information on many different subjects. New key commands, & a totally re- done jamming environment to name just a couple.

Q:
I'm reluctant to fly online with the sharks..

A:
I can appreciate that. Now get Hyperlobby and do it anyway. Like ALL new pilots- you might feel pretty green going in there. The main servers are usually set up with none of the low difficulty features enabled. You will NOT be the only noob in there.

Let go of your fear.

Just try it. You're not going to get picked on, impugned or any of that. If you want to fly on "ACE" settings- we want to teach you. Lots of people will put up a server with nugget features turned on once in a while to help welcome new guys or train, or whatever. Just ask.

Don't take encouragement to GIVE UP NOOB SETTINGS as "harassment." That's ridiculous. We're trying to teach you and these things- while they can have a limited role- will stunt your growth. The "map" view is not how you learn to navigate and find your targets. You don't learn to avoid missiles or take out vehicles hiding in the hills using labels.

Most of us will help any way we can. You can help yourself a LOT by getting on a communications channel that the server or your erm.. instructor.. has. That usually means TeamSpeak or Ventrilo- which can be downloaded on my main site in the downloads section. You've got to understand that trying to train someone new via the chat function is plain tiring. Help us to help you- get on comms before you press FLY.

You also need to make an effort to learn some things on your own too. Show some initiative. Print off the key commands & lay them out in front of you. Read the various forums, visit the official & fan sites and yes- read the manual. No, not the whole thing at once. Practice, study, and ask questions. If you like a particular group of guys/ gals in a squadron, and you can dedicate some time to being on a team, consider joining that squad permanently. **Be ready to be interviewed & evaluated. Not so much for your skills, but rather for the level of your dedication**.

Q: Am I ready to click on the FLY button? (multiplayer)

A: A quick pre-flight checklist common to all.

1. Have I gotten on the appropriate comms channel?

2. Is my stick & track IR running with the correct profiles?

3. Have I read the briefing of the mission, and/or reviewed the map of the mission area?

4. Do I know where to go, my purpose, and how to get home?

5. Do I have the loadout that I need for my role? (make sure that NO illegal weapons are loaded) Click "save" (payload screen) if lit after changes.

6. Go.
