Is there a way to place static aircraft around a base in the mission editor?

Yes. Its quite easy in fact. (this is from memory ... I will check it later and edit this if i am off).

Select the static item choice on the left, then place the item in the map. The while the item is still highlighted in yellow, click on the right panels to change the nationality, set the item type to plane, ground velicle, or building, then lower on the right you can assign a heading to it. this will make the items look a little more random (not all trucks are parked in a nice neat lline).


Whats the difference between mechanical engineers and civil engineers ? Mechanical engineers design weapons and civil engineers design targets.

Not a problem. You can also give trucks and other vehicles waypoints. This will make them drive around your air base during you mission. That really adds some immersion.

A guy called MBot is pretty good at giving an airbase a real life feel. Check out some of his missions - open them up in the mission editor and see how he has done it, it may give you a few ideas for your movie. Here is a link to his mission pack that he did a while ago, can't remember which particular ones you should lok at, I think it was the A-10 ones though....
