will i be happy with that?
my monitor is nothing special. just a tiny little crt. will upgrade later.

also im planning on buying that digital combat simulator when it comes out too. i guess ill be playing lock on flaming cliffs too, still not sure if thats an expansion, or a whole separate game or what.

My advice would be to get 2 gigs RAM now- not later. Other than that- should be OK. Click sig for tips on hardware, setup & learning in general.

Flaming Cliffs (FC) is a payware addon for Lockon. You can buy it as a download or as a CD. Unlike the original Lockon which was in shops, FC was never available in shops, buy off the Net only). Adds a new flyable Su25T with an advanced flight model that most everyone agrees is seriously realistic ie. a pig to fly until you get used to it. Fixes a number of things wrong with original Lockon, plus has more true to real life radar modes in Russian jets.

Vast majority of on-line folks are using FC patched to v1.12 (the current latest patch level), so if online is your thing, you should get FC.

cool. so ill just go ahead and double up on the ram then. i also decided to downgrade the motherboard, its still gonna be a pk5, just not the pro. i dont think that should make any real difference should it? just trying to save a little cash where i can.
yeah ive been reading through all your help info that you have up. great stuff man. I KNOW I will run into some issues once i get it installed and stuff. its a great comfort to know you guys are out there and can help me get through it.
i cant wait. i should be ordering all my parts either over the weekend or early next week. Ive been wanting to do this for so many years, but never did it due to cost, and severe lack of technical know how. but now im just gonna go for it. ahhh i cant wait!!
im definitely gonna be taking advantage of the online features(will for sure buy flaming cliffs). i wont jump online right away though. ill have to wait until after i feel i have enough knowledge, experience and skill gained through the campaign to be worth anything. so i dont know, maybe a month of training with the campaign and ill be ready to fly online? maybe less?
flaming cliffs fixes the physics in the campaign mode too right? for all planes?

also guys, im looking forward to that dcs black shark sim, will my specs still hold up for that?(whenever it comes out)

oh yeah i also decided to upgrade to a 3 ghz cpu thats why i downgraded the motherboard.

btw, how many players can play together on a server?

There are hyperlobby servers that have up to 99 slots, but I think this is a macho-man thing. My squadron had a server for many years, and it's tough to accomodate those numbers without major lag.

wow. ok. yeah i been checkin out all your help stuff. hopefully it covers any problems i run into. of course im realizing all the extra crap i need to spend money on. i noticed that you heavily recommend track ir, and i plan on getting it, but its gonna have to wait. im basically spending like 750 bucks just to play lock on as it is. and as much as i want track ir, i just cant spend 1000 bucks at once for one video game(simulator). i can use one of the hats on the flight stick to look around right?

i really liked that cc guy. thats such a cool story. im happy to be coming into a community of people like you all. i simply can not stomach the xbox live community any longer.
unfortunately i was unable to order my parts over the weekend. totally bummed about it. oh well, all i have to do is get to the bank on monday (hopefully) and make a deposit so i can place my order.

I don't find it ideal for a host of reasons, but I also understand that the budget is the deciding factor. Obviously you should get it ASAP. hey konkussion, i have yet another question for you. one of my friends has lock-on, but he never purchased flaming cliffs. we were wondering if he would be able to use the copy of flaming cliffs that im buying for myself, to also use for his computer. i was just wondering if that will work or not. if its gonna come back and bite me in the *** then ill just forget about it. thanks man.

alright dude!! my rig is built and shes lookin good. started right up first try. only problem was my old mouse isnt compatible, and windows is requesting activation, so i will get that taken care of after work today.
im still waiting on my flight stick to get here though, so even once the computer is fully ready, i wont be able to fly. i wonder if that piece of crap ace edge flight stick from the 360 would work. i have one of those. anyway yeah im almost there. ill keep ya posted.

hey konkussion, i was just wondering if i should update to version 1.02, or just go ahead and install flaming cliffs when it gets here monday. does the flaming cliffs install include the first two patches? 1.01 and 1.02? or do those need to be installed before i install fc? thanks.

nevermind i found it on your other help desk forum. sorry i keep asking stupid questions. yeah my flaming cliffs gets here monday, and i havent installed any patches yet, so ill just hold off and then just install flaming cliffs. i managed to find an old microsoft sidewinder that i can use until my x52 gets here on wed, or thurs. i dont know if it will work yet, but im pretty sure it will. alright, well in the mean time i can play around with it a bit, and ive been reading through the pdf manual on the disc. really cool stuff. i had myself pretty worked up, but im finally able to relax now that i can just enjoy my new pc. very happy with it so far.
