I tried everything mentioned on this topic and nothing worked. What I had to do is completely uninstall my modem. I tried just disable it and that didn't work. So just a suggestion, uninstall it and if it works just reinstall it when your done. Good Luck

Uninstall -- do you mean remove the modem physically? I won't do that. But I uninstalled (not just deactivated) the drivers before, to no success.
What I noticed is that I still have that "Modem Nr. 0 Line-Out" entry in the sound devices list. When drivers are installed I have two such entries (Nr. 0 and Nr. 1), but the Nr. 0 I don't get rid of.
And, no, I only have one modem and nothing on-board or such. And even if, I still do not see why only CoJ2 should have a problem with it and nothing else. I have sound everywhere else!
Anyway, I returned the game to the shop yesterday and got my money back. Maybe in half a year I give the game another chance...

I have no sound when I walk. E.g. If I walk I should hear some movement sound feet or footsteps etc. If you walk through a river you see the splashing but there is no sound of splashing. Any ideas how to fix the missing sound? When playing online you cannot hear the enemy walk past you or behind you! When can we expect this bug to be fixed? Should I return the game for a refund?

Funny! If I swim I hear a swimming sound. I can not believe they only created a sound for swimming!??

1. Start- run- regedit
2. press ctrl+f to search and enter "device presence"
3. right click "emulated" and click "modify". change "value data" to the number 0.
4. do the exact same thing with "VxD" and "WDM" except make sure their values are set to "1" instead of 0.
now under start- run- dxdiag, click on the "sound" tab and make sure the "hardware sound acceleration level" is set to "full acceleration"(the highest possible).
The sound should now work perfectly.
If you have any questions, just ask.
This worked perfectly for me...thanks bro!!!!!

Still no sound. So being that this is a game that never functioned, how do I go about getting a refund? It's too late to get one from where I bought it, and it doesn't matter since I already opened the box.

Well, I am luckily out. I returned the game one week after I bought it, to the shop where I bought it. Even though they said I was the only one having problems, they gave me a full refund -- even if I had opened the box and installed the game. That's the reason why I always buy there.
I think it's a good idea to ask before you buy if you can return a game when it does not work. Or, alternatively, wait six months for buying until the first patches are out. I certainly will not buy a game from Techland/Ubisoft any more immediatelly when it came out.

Well, if something is broken from the beginning you can return it for a full refund. I am pretty sure it's the same around whole Europe and any civilized country. No sound => game is broken. quote: Do anyone know if the soundproblem will be fixed soon?
What kind of question is *that*? If anybody knows it's the devs but they don't even bother to tell us if the problem is being worked on or even identified.

We have those shops, too. But I don't buy there. I buy where I know I can get a refund in such cases.

I fixed my no sound problem. I had tried everything listed above with no luck. So I compared my DirectX version with the latest version posted by Microsoft and lo and behold there was an update in March (of this year) that I wasn't aware of. So I updated DirectX and the sound works!
