I looks like everyone with this problem has Windows XP service pack 3. Maybe just upgrade your OS. :P

Hey Guys,
Just solved the sound problem here. It´s just a simple hardware acceleration problem. Just go to start menu, run, type dxdiag, go to the sound tab, move the sound acceleration bar to basic and it´s done. Play the game with sound. Cheers, Morgan. |

didnt work for me, and I even updated my soundcard

Well, try going to Control Panel, System,Hardware, Device Manager,Sound Videos and Game controllers and DISABLE Unimodem Half-Duplex Audio Device.
This might work as well. Let me know! Cheers, Morgan. |

Yes, I'm having the same problem.
I've updated my soundcard drivers, reduced hardware acceleration bit rate and sample rate and tried the re-install solution mentioned above to no avail. I'm guessing that this is using the same engine as Call of Duty: World at War (it looks very similar)? Which is the only other game I've had this problem with. Disappointed if it is the same engine that both Activison and Ubisoft have not managed to release a fix before the release of Call of Juarez. |

I also have this no-sound problem. Just bought the game today and will bring it back to the shop if there is no solution soon.
I have Windows XP SP3 and an ASUS Maximus Formula mainboard with the SoundMax HD Audio card that came with it. Asus does not offer any newer drivers than I already have installed. And I do not have any other programs that make trouble with my sound. I noticed that I do not have sound when playing some of the WMV files in the "Ubisoft\Techland\Call of Juarez - Bound in Blood\CoJ2\Data\Menu\Movies" folder. The videos that do not work have 440kbps audio, but there are some with 192kbps audio which work. For example, attract.wmv is working fine with sound, while MenuMovie_0.wmv is playing without sound only. |

I had a problem, too - which may have been the one described in this thread. Basically, I had no audio during the opening videos - although there was music present on the menu. To be perfectly honest, it was obvious something was wrong and I didn't want to even start playing the game without the ability to hear sound - so I have no idea whether or not the game was affected as well (though, from what I've read on-line, it seems to be a well reported issue).
I managed to fix it on my end - here's what gave it away for me; I opened up the 'Bound in Blood\CoJ2\Data\Menu\Movies' folder and found a handful of WMV video files. I tried opening one of them up in Media Player Classic (this was to see whether or not the intro video played with audio outside of the game). Interestingly MPC immediately kicked back an error stating that a codec was missing - a surprise to me, given that my machine is pretty stuffed with codecs. "Maybe it's a NEW one", I thought - then I saw that it was referring (if I remember correctly) to a Windows Media Player 9 Audio codec - or something very similar (and not very new). "Odd", I thought - as I also have Windows Media Player 11 installed (even though I never use it). First I tried installing a new codec pack (no help). So I then looked for the specific Windows Media Player 9 codecs, with only partial success (didn't fix the game) - after this, I downloaded and installed Windows Media Player 11 again. Hey, presto - Bound in Blood now has audio in the intro videos. ALSO - it wasn't apparent to me at the time, but the menus have some still-image video playing in the background which wasn't there before, either. So, basically, the game seems to require a very specific Microsoft codec that can be acquired by (re)installing Windows Media Player 11 - something which may have been necessary if you yourself have been using codec packs. I've now played through the first 3 chapters without any probs. Hope this helps some of you out. -_^ Presentation and visuals are beautiful, for what it's worth (especially the depth-of-field - best implementation of it I've ever seen). Controls feel a bit 'console-y' much of the time, though - in comparison to the original - so I'm hoping I'll warm to them. [my system; Windows XP: Service Pack 2 (64-Bit) GeForce 8800 GTX (SLI) SoundBlaster X-Fi Xtreme-Gamer nForce motherboard, etc ...] |

OK, I tried both solutions (disable Unimodem Half-Duplex Audio Device and re-install WMP 11). Still no sound.
By the way, I also tried playing the WMV files in Media Player Classic, but even if I do not have sound, I do not get a message about missing codecs. And, no, I do not have sound in game, too. |
