I think that can be a good idea to limitate players you can attack.
An example you have a "power" of 100 you only can attack users between 80-120. Or the same plus neighbours. Sorry for my english |

Cybernations uses the 50% to 200% rule and that seems to work fairly well.
Power doesn't haven't to be solely represented by troops. Troops would likely still be the most fluctuating modifier, but that could also be controlled with an upkeep cost. |

And some games have protection against people "ganging-up" on you: max number of attacks that can be done against you or decreasing gains with each attack within say 24hrs (it all depends on the mechanics of the game).
But most games do care enough to make some sort of newbie protection: otherwise people will create account, get destroyed by someone 1k times their size and delete account. No fun for newbies = small number of active players = not good business for game creators. We all played games that made mistakes in that area |

Then the dominating player couldn't attack anybody |

Then why all the hard work of creating an army just to find out you can't attack anyone? Nice.
I reckon some sort of 'day limit' depending on how fast the game progresses. As in a player getS a 3 day 'immortality' to create mines, build, whatever. To get him in the game and get him started. |

Actually, the best handling in any Browser game that I've played(and just to both strong and weak players) is AstroEmpires. One full week of immunity and then up to a level comparable to the stronger players.
Also makes guilds a necessity. |

This is a very interesting topic actually because that will decide the fate of the game on the long run.
Heroes has always been a WAR GAME (with exception of some good scenarios). You need to DESTROY all and everyone and be the one uniting all. I see this happening with the opening of MANY realms with limited number of players - say 128 or 256. If there will be HUGE realms with thousands of players I see the final aim being collecting puzzle pieces through quests and beating NPCs in order to find the Holy Grail or whatever UBI comes up with in case some zealously religious people find it offending to search for a Grail LOL A GOOD heroes game on a Medium Map lasts NO MORE than 3 classic Months (one turn being one day). And still again it depends on what are UBI's purposes with this game - making a **** load of money and "playing it safely" or if they'll go straight for heavyweight old school heroes players and deliver them a great experience. === HOMM - religion and a way of life! |

Hello.
I'm quite excited about this game, but there are some things I find strange. First of all the idea of limiting attacks... It's a v.bad idea, it will make the game boring. Second, will there be an option of destroying enemy towns? Or conquering them, or something? There must be.. Third: farming. In MMOG's it's a very important aspect, giving active players reward for there activity. And most important: Will there be a goal? Can a game be ended in any way? I'm a Travian player, I tried loads of diffrent MMOG's, and found Travian to be optimal. The creators may look into the rules and gameplay of Travian for ideas. Travian has about one hundred servers round the world, wich prooves, that it's rules are good and balanced. Travian s4.pl Pustoszyciel (Gwardia) Travian s7.com Flip&Flap (Pftf) |

I have an idea to promote the game. The developers or artistic employees should create signatures of all races specially designed with kingdoms footage. Like ubival did with hommv

travian was a HORRIBLE game IMO. There was no semblance of balance in the game. You had some immunity for a bit when starting out but then you got completely raped by people literarly thousands of times stronger then you. It was impossible to change, alliances were useless mostly because if you didn't start on a good place on the map you were stuck with useless alliances and stupid people for the most part. The enemy would steal your towns. Game over. I quit that game, it wasn't fun. Maybe it was fun for the people who were there from the start and had absolute immunity from anything I could do to them. So thats what killed that game for me. Utopia on the other hand was far more balanced, it was hardly worthwhile for an opponent greater then your size to hit you. There were ALWAYS 'big' people, assuming this game isn't a total flop there will always be enough 'big' players that have something to attack. Limiting attacking is integral so that people who can't spend day and night at the computer can take a break. Most of you people think about whats fun for you, but you don't think about the consequences of what 'your' fun would do to the game and other people. |

![]() This is more or less the exact same experience I had, with one major addition: I was playing with friends. Only we were all in different areas of the map. So, despite there being five of us, we were all alone and it killed part of the fun of co-operating with people you knew. We couldn't help each other effectively AT ALL, which sucked since two of us were getting wailed on regularly while the other three were fairly safe in their communities, but couldn't send troops to help until three days later =\ It totally killed the fun for me. Heroes Kingdoms, on the other hand, seems to be fixing all the things about Travian I disliked, while keeping the things from Travian and various things from Heroes that I do like. Hence my excitement. Hail Bugle, emperor of all weirdos. Those who are about to die of weirdness salute you. Once the Official chief annoyance to the Cult of Alderbranch. HoMM Kingdoms? Sign me up! Hope it's better than Travian *shudder* |

I played Travian for about 8 months. I started 3 months after the server was opened and in the end our aliance won the server. we build the first lvl 100 wonder; in the server's final hours we were sure we wouldn't win but some long lost armies managed to bring the enemy wonder 1 level below ours. So aliances are everything but useless. It's a game that requires you to invest a lot of time and it is really balanced every race is optimum for different stages of the game.
Don't get me wrong. I've been playing HoMM from the first installment and I would love to play it as a MMOG. However at this point, except for a few minor ideas & tweaks it has nothing more to offer compared to travian and that's a pitty. What this game needs is endless ours of combat. HoMM series has always been about conquering everything. I think UBI is gonna play it safe and go for the big bucks instead of offering the best online strategy game the web has ever seen. |

I didn't like Travian at all.
Even graphic wise. Tribal wars is like Travian, only immensely better. Travian has possibly more players cause it's older. Tribal wars is constantly improving itself. HOMM should look up for Tribal wars on ideas. Travian will not be a contenter. |
