Gav,

Started up your mission, but as soon as I try to outfit my team, it crashes.

Going to try it again though...

You need the mods that have been activated while making the mission. DS/IT ?.

Look at Ike.log straight after crash, and the last lines of missing files probably are from a not activated mod.

It's a map made by Gav. He e-mailed it to me a couple of days ago, but it won't work...

You got it working yet?? I've no idea what would cause the crash... I have DS and IT activated on my system, but the mission only refers to things in the original game, so you shouldn't need any mods at all... My brother never had any trouble with it anyway...

Was on holiday last week, so that's why I wasn't about...

I deactivated DS and tried loading it under the original GR. It did not work. I also ticked the box - available to custom games-. Still did not work.

It loads up fine, untill I try selecting a different kit. This is the first point where it crashed. My second attempt was to load the game with the standard kits, but then it crashes during the loading of the game.

Did your brother play this exact same map?

(Welcome back! )

Yep, I emailed it to him about a month ago. Maybe six weeks. Somewhere there.

It's wierd... I've never heard of it crashing there before. I've had GR crash during startup for a mission, but never just when I select a new kit... Have you tried doing it without changing kits? As in, take kit 1 for every soldier? You should have access to all the specialists from the original GR campaign, so you can get Nige and his AT in his demo kit 1... You might be able to get around the crash if you avoid doing the thing that seems to cause it... I'm a bit confused by that though.

I blame you It's never crashed on anyone else's machine! Although admittedly it's only been tried on three - including mine!

Ah well,...I'll take full responsibility for it's crash!

Strange even so...

Maybe you have another one? See if it does the same...?!

Another mission you can try, you mean? I have a few now. Not sure exactly how many - about eight I think. The first few were early attempts, and they're alright, but certainly nothing special. Sigma Claw was the first one I'd written that was really good. It's in the campaign I'm writing, which I now have five missions for. I'll get another one on disk for you and email it to you tomorrow if you like. Maybe... Acid Strike or Poison Spear. One of them. How many guys do you want to have to kill? 50 or 100? Day mission or night mission? Woodland or airbase?

I take it that you put Sigma Claw into your ...\Ghost Recon\Mods\Origmiss\Mission folder with all the other *.mis files? I tried mine last night, and I can change the kit selections no problem, on all the troops. You'll have had to uncheck the "Requires Unlocking" box, but that's all you changed? I also spoke to my brother on the phone, and he's never had the mission crash for any reason... Hmmm...

I can try sending you the file again if you like, in case you have a corrupted copy somehow? Although it's the same version I have on my system (I didn't send you an early version of it by mistake or anything, I mean)... That's a real pity, coz it's a very good stand alone mission. I like to think so anyway. And my brother says it's his favourite mission - better than the RSE ones... High praise indeed

Yes...another one...if you email it to me with all the settings correct, it should do fine...

I just checked where I 've put the other one, but I did that correct. Requires Unlocking was ok too...

I'll just give it a go later and see what it does now.

Well, I'll get another one that's going in my campaign and uncheck the "requires unlocking" bit in Igor so you can run it in quick mission and email it to you tomorrow. I'll also uncheck the that box on Sigma Claw and send you that again as well. You can then delete the one I sent you before, and try the new one I send you. Maybe it'll work, maybe not. But hopefully the other mission should give you something else to try out anyway.

I thought you just said you could select the kits, but that it still crashed on startup?

Have you got into it and started the carnage or not?

Ok,....

Tried it but it did not work. As soon as I selected a different kit it crashed.

Tried it without slecting other kits. It started up and still crashed.

Tried deleting some kits I folled around with a while ago and started it up. Still crashed

Re-activated DS and started it up. Now it works fine!

So you can get into it now then?

Good. I feel a bit better now, knowing that I didn't waste all my dev time to look a fool to the first person who asked if they could try a mission I'd written!

Just remember: do it in one go, don't save and reload or the snipers stand up and it makes it too easy! Well. Easier anyway...

What do you think of it? You playing on vet or elite?

Vet for now, but I got my team killed in the first 5 minutes and actually just started it up, so I could give you some piece of mind! lol

It works and looks fine! I am going to do some things too. I might just pop on by for some Q's!

How do you change the weather? I tried once, but also made it crash. Never tried it after that. Some maps can be fun when the are dark instead of light and vice versa.

Ask away if you want any Igor help. I'll do my best to help. That's what the mod forum's for!

You can change the weather in the sense of adding fog, snow or rain in the map properties - or is it mission properties? Can't remember which now, but one of them. That's how I turned the rain off on the map for the mission you've got (if you remember, it's raining on that map in the original campaign).

Turning day to night, I've never managed to do. You have to alter the environment and the skybox, and you also have to alter the map itself I believe - to make the ground a different colour - ie, not black if you're converting to daytime etc. But like I said, I've never managed it.

I normally just place the actors and vehicles, give them plans, and write the scripting. Anything else, I tend to leave alone!

Lol....np...I'll figure it out!

Wouldn't that be nice...come to a point where we are ten yrs older and still able to script maps for eachother! LOL!

I say GR was it's money WELL worth!!

If you do figure it out, you'll have to tell me how it's done!

Even if we are scripting missions in ten years time, we'll still send them to each other and cause our machines to crash!

I feel so much better knowing that you've got the damned thing running!

GR is very definately well worth the money. I got the game in December 2001 - the first time I tried playing it was on New Year's Day, 2002, with a hangover. Needless to say, I got wasted that day! Didn't get anywhere on mission one at all. Had to give up in the end, and try again when I was bright-eyed again!

My brother bought me the DS add-on for my birthday - I had to wait for it's release, but bought it straight away as soon as it was, and he gave me the money back for it. Then he bought me IT for Christmas, just after it's release. The odd time he saw it and played it on my computer convinced him to buy it, and he's got DS and IT as well now... Well worth it. And it's so adaptable - with Igor you can just keep on refreshing the game and keeping it young with new missions etc. I just hope GR2 is as good, and doesn't tarnish the name!
