How do you make a shotgun effective at medium range, in a mod? What variables would you tweak?

For a mod you're writing yourself you mean?

You tweek the gun stats in Igor - there's a Gun Editor in the Tools pull-down menu. In there, select the gun you want to alter, and then start playing around with the variables for that weapon (I'd recommend you save it as a different name, so you don't overwrite the original gun file).

I've never played with the shotguns, so I don't know what variables there are for them that isn't in the rifles' parameters, but I imagine there must be something to allow you to alter how much the pellets spread out... To improve it's effectiveness at longer ranges, it'd probably be worth reducing that spread. You may also want to improve the zoom on it (to give you a better sight). If it still lacks power, them you can alter the firepower of the gun if you wanted to. It's all there on the page, and it's fairly straight-forward and self-explanatory when you're looking at it. Just remember that you want bigger velocities (eg muzzle velocity) and co-efficients (including the range) to give you more power.

Remember though that this will make GR less realistic - part of the fun is the way that different guns are good at some things, but bad at others, so you have to select your kit carefully. If you have a gun that can do everything, you may lose a bit of the game...

If you change the stats for your shotgun, just make it like:

Good for short distances, with a large stopping-power.
It shoudl be a crappy gun for long distances....

Jake, I torture you with long posts... because I can really.

I could condense them a bit perhaps, but then I might not get everything across that I was trying to say, so you wouldn't understand the help I was trying to give you. Which would kinda defeat the point a bit, wouldn't it?

In future I'll have long posts for Paul, who seems to appreciate the content (well, most of the time!), and short ones for Jake: they'll say simply "f**k off!!"

You might think that: I couldn't possibly comment!

I'm just gonna write a really, really difficult mission and then send it to you to play!! By the way, not to make you feel bad or anything, but that castle mission you seem to be struggling so much with? Coz I've been so nasty in how I've put it together with guys everywhere who're crack shots? Well, I've done it on elite with just a single guy (Nige Tunney) in true "lone wolf" fashion - it's not that hard! It was hairy at times, granted, and I was under sustained enemy fire for quite a bit of time, but I wasted them all and escaped unscathed and picked up the Medal of Honour for my troubles... So stop whining about it!!

Very funny, jacka$$! I have no need for such cheats... Actually that's not quite true. I do use the invisible and invincible cheats sometimes when I'm testing missions - it's faster than having to play it through every time, y' know?

In fact, the new version of it that you haven't downloaded yet does give the player platoon invisibility... But only for the duration of the startup cinematic. I didn't think it would be very fair to arrive in-game (a few seconds after the mission startup, coz you've been watching the cinematic) to find that your AI has picked a fight and lost, and you're the only one left now, and they've already given your position away...

You struggle enough with it as it is, so I thought I'd better not make it any harder for you!
