I was going to ask this question over in that website area but nobody appears to have posted there in about 4 months so here I am.

I highly recommend the G8 Mod, however I am a bit frustrated with the number of skins available. I am by no means saying that the sheer number is a bad thing! On the contrary, it is excellent to include forces from all different countries. Unfortunately, I'll seldom be using the Germans or even the american kit. Instead, I like the 4 or so Canadian kits per soldier class.

I suspect I'll be able to go into the mod file and delete those I don't want... however I want to make sure that I can delete it without damaging the mod, and whether or not everyone who has the same mod activated will have to delete their unwanted skins as well.

Any answer is appreciated!

Speaking purely in terms of single-player gameplay, yes, you can delete the skins you don't want. Or anything else for that matter (guns etc). Look through the mod and remove the skins from your HD. This won't have any adverse effects unless some of the soldiers scripted to appear in the mod are set to wear those skins (eg enemy soldiers or the friendly troops you sometimes get). I've never played the mod, so I don't know if they do or not. But if you're sure they don't, then by all means delete them. If you're not sure, try moving the skins you don't want to a folder outside of the GR folder - put it in My Documents or something. Then try it. If it doesn't work, you've still got the skins to put back into their original locations to return everything to how it was. If it works fine in all missions without them, you can delete them permanently.

However. If you play MP, with the mod activated, you need to have the same files as everyone else is using. If you play without the mod, you can delete the skins. If you play with the mod active, but nobody uses the skins you've deleted you'll also be fine. But if you play MP with the mod active, and someone chooses a skin you've deleted (eg a German Bundeswehr uniform or whatever), then your PC will crash, as it won't be able to find the file to render that character in the game.

Obviously, you could just tell people not to choose certain uniforms, or play MP with the mod de-activated and not have any problems. Hope that answers your Q...

Thank you for taking the time to walk me through that part of it. Unfortunately, I tried deleting folders containing kits from different countries, but when I tried to start up a game (MP in particular) it crashed as soon as I tried to start it. I put the folders back as they were and now it's crashing more frequently and I'm not sure why. I'm afraid I may need to do a fresh install. Fortunately, that could be a 20 minutes well spent!

It'd be easier for you to understand if you had the mod, and I know I should take it up directly with the guy who made it... but thanks for your input. It's appreciated. Have a good holiday.

Well, I can't tell you what's wrong with it of course, but you could try disabling the mod in Windows (there's a text file in the GR root folder containing a list of your active mods - just remove the relevant one from it) and then seeing if the game will start up properly without the mod. If it does, it's only a reinstall of a single mod, rather than GR, DS, IT, and all the other mods you're using...

Happy Xmas to you too. Hope you get it sorted...

Maybe you can replace the uni's you don't want with Canadian uniform ? Change the name of the Canadian uni's to the ones you deleted.

OK you'll have alot double Canadian uniforms, but atleast no German or American.

You gotta do the kits too.

That's for MP, if the uni's are refered in missions too, you gotta edit/delete(or just not play) them too.

Who made that mod (Bajabravo ?) I know you can Email him and you probably get an answer. Look for his Email at Ghostrecon.net forums or The Platoon.

BTW the uniforms are in the ATR-files of the actor/MP actor files-folder, GL.

Merry Xmas people !
