Hey, I'd like to use a blackhawk to carry troops from one place to another. First question - can the copter defend itself, or is that guy manning the gun just for show?

Also, I'm using the Embassy board, which has very little open space, so I may need to stick to the rooftops when doing movement?

Also, is there any way to tell the blackhawk to "hover" or fly in a holding pattern, and if so, what have you tried that worked?

Thanks!

I can't help you (never even opened up IGOR) but it sounds like you're getting good! Are you going to release some of these mods you're making?

Flattery will get you everywhere. Wink2

I don't know how good I'm getting (I'm in the minor leagues compared to Gav80 and HHour), but I'm trying to learn!

The guy in the blackhawk is just for show. The geometry for the crew is built into the helo so they don't do anything but they can't get killed either. You ought to be able to get it to hover with a height set and speed of zero.

Well, HHour told me that helicopters don't work in Co-op mode, so I have no interest in them now. But thanks for the info - hopefully others will read this thread before they waste time on helos. Wink2

What do you mean they "don't work"? I've done a co-op MP mission with a blackhawk...

Was it flying in? Already there? Can't remember now... but I know we had to run to an extraction point, and when we got there, there was a blackhawk waiting for us... blades-a-spinnin', waiting to take us home...

*Not that I'm questioning anyone's expertise*
I was just wondering what you meant by "don't work"... it was sounding like it was going to be interesting! (the mod... I mean...)

I was talking with HHour in chat, asking him about helicopter scripting/movement, and he said that helicopters "don't work" in co-op mode, which is my sole interest in modding. Since he seems to be a pretty knowledgeable guy when it comes to modding, I took his word for it. If anyone knows differently, please let me know! I'm a noob! Happy

Over at GhostRecon.Net, Chems created a Little Bird, and he has a test mission which uses the Little Bird...

If you're interested in either adding the Little Bird to a mission or want to look at the test mission to see how it's used, you can look
here...

I re-read your first post, and I may now understand a bit more than I did before... you want to use the BH to actually pick you up and move you while on the map? Ok, I take it back, I haven't seen that... what I've seen is a BH come in, mid-mission, and drop other soldiers (AI) off at a specific point, and I had to go meet up with them at a rendezvous point. That was single player, but I would imagine it would also work in Co-Op. There was another mission, that was definitely Multi-player co-op where a BH was at our extraction point, and we had to go run up to it... but when we got there, the mission ended... we didn't climb aboard or anything...

So, now I think I know what you're talking about (having the BH pick you up and move you around). There was a mod, however, that you started outside, but if you walked up to a truck, then you "boarded" the truck with all your crew, and the truck started to roll through a bad part of town, and you could either stay in the truck or hop out and start shooting. But, once you hopped out, I don't think you could get back in the truck. I only played this while in Single Player, so I don't know what happens in MP on this one (or if it was MP, I was the only player with AI backup, effectively making it SP - I do that often enough now to forget what it is I'm really doing...). You could possibly take a look at that mission and see how they made the truck work that way... if it works for a truck, it couldn't be done with a BH?

Just throwing ideas out there... if I had to guess to the mod that had the truck, it would be HX5 and the mission would have been Mogadishu, but I could be wrong there...

Best of luck, anyways...

Actually, I just wanted to transport AI troops from one point to another, not myself, although that sounds like a cool idea! I'll check out your link when I get home (work is for chumps!). VeryHappy

Well, all I can say is the OP Stabilise mod had a blackhawk full of AI men fly in mid-mission and land at a rendezvous point... upon landing, the AI set up a perimeter around the chopper and helped me take out some attacking soldiers... I don't know if it works in MP Co-Op Mission mode, but SP Campaign it worked, and was really cool... (If this is read like I'm condoning the stealing of one's ideas, I'm not... Disapproval I'm just showing that someone has done something similar to what jbaker was asking about Wink2 )

If you do figure it out, and then add in Chem's Little Birds (of course giving Chem due credit Wink2), you would have quite the sky armada coming in to save the day!! Surprised

Hey! I`d like to use the BH`s in coop as well, but I`ve experiensed that if you set them to stay on the ground they will act normally.

But if you set them to fly they still will stay on the ground where u set them to start.
But, strangely, in the screen of the same computer that serves (not running dedicated) the BH`s will fly just the way u set them to, but NOT in the other screens of the other connected computers (where the BH`s stay put).

Does anyone of u guys know how to make BH`s to fly on every computers I`d be greatful. Smile(If this is possible)

(Hope you understand my bad english) Blink
