Never tried going outside the boundary of the map, to be honest. I've had it before when I've had guys stood hard up against the boundary which meant that they didn't appear on the command map until they moved further in...
Every map has a hard boundary beyond which you (supposedly) can't pass. Sometimes the command map doesn't quite capture the whole of the gaming area so you don't show up on the command map. Perhaps that's what you had? The only way I can think of to get outside the map area would be to have a scriptblock to transport the player platoon, but I'm not sure it'll let you transport anything outside the map boundary... |

Some of my characters were completely off the command map and fully able to explore the areas between the boundry line and the literal edge of the world where the ground plane ended and I could look down and see the sky completely surrounded the map. I could walk though the backdrop layer of 2-D trees and when I looked back, they were transparent. The only place I could reenter the command map area was though the gap in the stone fence (OrigMiss farm map) but once though, they could not go back. Up until that time they did not show up on the map. I would have taken some screen shots but it was a night mission and I had added too much rain and fog so it would have taken too much to explain what one was seeing. The only thing I remember doing was deleting all the map points and expanding some zones so they were outside the boundry. |

Your insertion zone probably extended beyond the edge then. That would explain why you could get back on to the map, but then couldn't leave it again.
Interesting though - I think I might try it, just for a laugh! |
