I have one problem and wondered if you had any ideas as to what i'm doing wrong.
I have created a tower and grouped the outer skin with the outside room (_1) the inner polygons (ie the inner walls and spiral floor/stairs and door frame) have been grouped as room 24 (_24) the portal i have has the normal facing into room24 and is named p24_1
Both the portal and room24 are hidden objects along with the shermanlevels etc in 3dsm and the outer skin of the tower and other objects are visible and all grouped as _1 on exporting the map.
When i run the map inGR everything looks ok the inside of the tower (ie room 24) is rendering, bullets hit inner walls etc but when i walk through the portal the inner objects (ie room 24) dissappear.
Any ideas?

Are your portals and shermanlevels grouped with anything? (they shouldn't be). I assume you have transitions as well. Is your roomlist correct? i.e. if room24 is on two levels make sure you have that in the roomlist.

When does room24 disappear - when you are in it or in room1?

Also, this may sound dumb, but what is your clipping distance in the env file? I understand if that's too short entire rooms may disappear.

Portals and shermans arent grouped,there is a sherman transition24_1.5 inbetween sherman levels 1.0 and 2.0. and the room list is correct.
I tried deleting the portal and still room 24 doesn't render, but it exports ok,
Room 24 disappears as you enter it(ie just as you pass thru the portal), but only renders if the portal is there. When the portal is deleted the room doesnt appear at all in the game.
The "far clipping distance" is 250, what does this do?

Update:- problem does not appear to be with sherman level or portals. I am exporting the map with rooms grouped as _1 and _24. the only time i can get room 24 to work is if i attach _24 to _1 and export it, but then get error" room 24 is in list but not in map" but it exports ok and plays ok but this is not what i want as the idea of having rooms and portals is so the map will render faster during the game instead of rendering everything at once.

I'll have to think about this. If I understand correctly, I've had this problem before. Have to remember what I did.

You don't by chance have another portal directly over this one? Like a window?

Cheers buddy, much appreciate ur time as i'm kinda at my wits end as to what the hell is goin wrong.Tried everything i can think of.
The map is exporting the correct amount of polygons and room 24 is behaving correctly when the portal is in the doorway, that is that it is rendering and bullets and grenades are hitting the innerwalls/floor etc.It Just dissapears when i go thru the portal. If the portal is deleted then it doesnt render,same as when i pass thru the portal.There is no other portal in the room.
Could it be something to do with when the .sht file is built as this would make the 2d collisions?
Should i be using Igor to build the sht file or GR? all i do at the moment is export the map file, delete the sht file and run the map in quick mission to get a new sht file.

I don't think it matters whether the sht file is made from GR or Igor, but you might try building it in Igor instead (what can it hurt?) Have you looked at the map in Igor to see if there are problems that show up there? When you walk through the portal is it smooth or do you kind of "stick" trying to go through?

Well I've managed to suss out what the problem was, I had part of the floor polygon of room 1 in the entrance of room 24.I made another polygon to cover this area tagged it as a floor polygon and attached it to room 24. Now it works sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet.
Obviously because i was standing on a polygon that belonged to room 1 the game was rendering room 1 and not room 24.So bloody obvious now doh!!!!

Thanks guys, you helped eliminate all other possiblities much appreciated.The map should be finished in a week or so, I will post a link in these forums so you guys can have a blast on it.
