In the *.atr files, there is a <JungleLOD1> tag that seems like it must be filled out, or else the character will crash on jungle maps.
I think I can just copy the values of the <LOD2> and <LOD3> tags into <JungleLOD2> and <JungleLOD3> in order to make it work. But what do I put for <JungleLOD1>? There is no corresponding <LOD1> tag to copy from. |

I take it you're trying to make new characters for the game?
LOD is Level Of Detail (1 being lowest, 3 being highest). The three LODs are essentially the same picture, but at three different "resolutions" if you like. The more detailed LOD shows more intricate things on the uniforms etc. Obviously, this can strain some systems that don't have the graphics capability required for this. In the options menu of GR, you can set various display parameters (screen resolution etc) to optimise your trade-off between performance and prettiness. One of the things you can do is alter the LODs of the characters, vehicles, shadows etc. When you choose Low, Medium or High LOD, the game will use the corresponding LOD (ie LOD1, LOD2 or LOD3) in the atr file. Initially, there was just one set for GR, but when Desert Siege came out and the guys had different uniforms for the desert, there was a desert LOD set. The jungle LODs came with Island Thunder. So basically, yes, you can copy the other LOD2 and LOD3 into your new one. If you can't find a separate LOD1 to copy across, my advice would be to put the LOD2 info in there - or see how IT got around not having a LOD1... Incidentally, if you're copying LODs from the orginal game into your jungle LODs, note that the character will have woodland DPMs, not jungle fatigues... It shouldn't cause any problems from a gaming point of view, just that they'll have the wrong uniforms on. Hope that helps... |
