How do you check the amount of polys your model consists of?

When is it too much?

What is the minimum (if there is any) and what is the maximum amount?

I know that this also depends on the system you run it on, but let's just say it's a pretty standard PC it will have to run on...

You can check by going to Files>Summary Info... or under the Utilities tab on the right, I think you go to More..., then there should be a counter there.

There isn't any real set limit for polys that I know of. It sort of depends on the computer and how many objects are in view. But Basic limits that should work within the game specs are about 1500 polys for characters, and 200-400 polys for weapons. Maps can be any size, with about 10,000 polys in view at any time. You can probably push those limits alot.

What did you say a reasonable polycount was??? LOL LOEL (laughing out even louder! )

Push the limits huh...!

Couldn't this be the problem for my crash?? How do reduce it, without having to change the model drasticly?? I would be a shame if it didn't work....Looks really neat if I may say so myself!

Well, there isn't any hard and fast limit. For vehicles and helicopters and such, probably 2000 is ideal, but as long as there arent many in view at a time, that may not be too bad. Only way to know is to try it out in game. I don't think it would crash the game. just make it very laggy.

You could use the Optimize modifier under the modify tab on the right. If you have already applied a texture map, you will have to do that over again.

MultiRes you can use too.

You can decrease the faces with a slider, and you see the result right away.
