Posted Tue February 07 2006 20:58 ure fine...sheesh, u guys with good computers worrying about if the game will work...are you kidding me?...i have a pentium 4,geforce 6600gt agp, 512 mb ram, 1.6 ghz...im the one that needs worrying...btw if you dont want your computer contact me here and ill GLADLY take your computer
I have the same card. You might try rolling back your video card drivers to 81.98. I think thats the latest WHQL version. Its what i'm using and everything is fine. Make sure to use driver cleaner to get rid of the extra tidbits that get left around from the nvidia uninstaller. If however thats one you've already tried. It might be your monitor. Are you using a flat screen or a CRT ?

i downloaded driver 83.91 which is whql certified...still doesnt work...so then i tried the 81.98 and apparently that works...but laggs the other games i have...so i downloaded forceware 84.20...anyway is there a possibility that these drivers arent compatible with sc3? and my monitor is old but its still works fine...
Yes there is a great possiblity that drivers that come out after SC3 will be incompatable with SC3. Much like the shadows bug with SC1 if your drivers were newer at a certain point the shadow buffer method of rendering would stop working, and you would have to enable projector shadows instead even on nvidia rigs that could use the shadow buffer. With SC3 there are a lot more bells and whistles for the visuals so there is alot more to go wrong. I had hell with my via chipset and my GPU crossing wires until I got the 81.98 version of te drivers. I don't get any lag in other games though. Are you using driver cleaner to clean away the old drivers before you install the newer/older ones?

I have the same exact problem. Any driver above 81.98 (even the latest certified 84.21) and the sky will render black. Sometimes the sky will render correctly, but when the viewing angle changes, the sky goes black again. This happened in the retail and demo version.
I've tried running the game with all different sorts of graphics configurations, but nothing changed, except rolling back the driver.
Unfortunately, I just don't want to stick with the old driver because the new ones enable more PureVideo features for me.
By the way, I have a 6600GT AGP. I wonder if this has something to do with Nvidia's AGP solution for these chips (that’s why the AGP versions have their chips rotated 45 degrees).
The only other thing I can think of is that the latest certified driver isn’t certified for all the graphics cards. Their website says the 6600GT is certified with the 84.21, but doesn't explicitly say 6600GT AGP.
I don't know why nvidia would release a driver that makes a 1 year old game not render correctly.
this is why everyone should sell their computer lol i just gotta slip my disc n with my console but with the computer ya gotta mess with all this mumbo jumbo n for what its all the same with graphics lol
Hmm.. after some driver cleaning I was able to get it working on 81.98. I think I'll stick with this one for a while.. its not bad. Seems like this bug should have been fixed long ago.. I have similar problems with Double Agent too.. Sam changes color from Black to White all the time in the demo. But if I install an older driver it clears up .. just like chaos theory. Are these 6XXX series geforce cards that buggy or is it just these splinter cell games?? Farcry and all other games run fine.
