Your graphics chip will do that. It is not a video card with its own memory so it shares memory with the system. The thermal goggles seeem to require more memory which overloads your system causing it to kick you out.
Yes. If it is a laptop (you do not say) it can be difficult to upgrade to a video card. On a PC it is not really that hard. If it is less than a couple of years old you probably need a PCI Express video card. If you like to play games I would suggest getting the best one you can afford for maximum compatability.
