I just bought the downloadable PC version of Splinter Cell Chaos Theory from Ubisoft. I was wondering if the downloadable version still contains Starforce like the DVD version does.

Ok, I'll answer my own question (for anyone that might want to know). I did a check and found I did have Starforce drivers installed. I used the Starforce Removal Tool and removed them. I then rebooted and checked to make sure drivers were gone. They were. Then tried to play the Downloadable version of Splinter Cell Chaos Theory. I went right into the game with no problems. So this means that the downloadable version does not have the Starforce drivers. Very good! It was the second reason I bought the downloadable version. First to not have to have a DVD in drive to play and second, to get rid of having to have Starforce.

I had bought the original DVD Chaos Theory game (that does indeed use Starforce) when it first came out and lost my damn disk (I still had it installed on my computer but couldn't play it (without DVD in drive). I searched Ubisoft and wa la, found they did have a downloadable version to buy.

Problem solved and Starforce free!

I don't know if they still have them but you used to be able to buy a replacement disc from UBI- if you could prove prior purchase. I think it was maybe $10.

I bought the game so long ago that I know I don't still have a receipt. Even if I could find it, the downloadable version is much better for me for the reasons I stated, no DVD needed and no bleeping Starforce. I already copied the download files to a DVD so I now have a backup in case I needed to re-install for some reason.
