I'm trying to install the 1.2 patch for Splinter Cell. It aborts when trying to look for a version number. It says: Could not retrieve version number. Aborting Installation.

What issue are you trying to install the patch for? It is for if you are having troubles with the laser mic the elevator problem. Most versions don't need it. Also be sure you have the right version of it for the country you are in (European versions need a different patch from the US version).
