Hi everybody!

Well, I find myself in a strange situation as this is the first time this happens to me with a splinter cell game. So...the question here is:

During the first level I noticed (more specifically over the snow-covered areas) while the indicator on the suit is green and enemies can't see me...well...I'm actually quite visible. Now don't get me wrong...I know this is not an hyperrealistic game but...is just wierd...I even tried standing up in front of an enemy at a distance of no more 1 meter...and yet, as long as the indicator is green...they just can't see me.
So...what I'm wondering is...is the light/ contrast default the problem (I did tried twiking it but MY GOD I just could not find a way to actually make it look real)...or is it simply because this level just happens to have snow and the suit is black...or is it some sort of design problem...anyway I don't know how to post a screenshot or wlse I would show you...
Any clues??

THX in advance!

Check your brightness setting. If its too high you can appear extremely visible while still being unseen to the enemies.

An upcoming novel by me.
Thanks Melonie for the sig!

Well I did tried playing with the Brightness/ Contrast bars but...for instance when I finally got some reasonable and believable light levels outside (alway speaking of the first mission) well...once I got inside it was all pretty much full black...I mean...I know the iside is darker...but I'm talking about "I-can't-see-my-own-hand-dark"...mmm...could anyone just post a screenshot (if possible of the first mission) either of the outside or inside to have a reference of brightness/ contrast? It would be much appreciated...
Thanks in advance!

well if i understand you correctly, you are saying that even while the meter is green, and you can see sam, even pretending youre not being supposed to see sam fisher, the enemies cant see him, right? if thats it, then you must understand one thing: the enemies arent capable of seeing his sillhouete (i dont know how to spell this correctly), if he is in the middle of the desert, and a huge thin cactus makes a huge thin shadow, and your character is standing on it, then according to the game he is invisible and the enemies cant see him, you can see him easily by placing the camera in a position that the bright desert is behind him, enemies can walk past him almost touching making physical contact and still wont be able to see.

according to your first sentence, its the first time it happens to you with a splinter cell game, i interpret that you should already know what i said above since you meant you played splinter cell games before, then theres another thing you must understand: double agent is a very crappy splinter cell game, if you reach the boat mission (not the winter one, the summer one, i dont remember the name nor the place its played) you will see how crappy it is, the entire level is bright, there are no shadows, and still there are spots where you are standing in the light and the meter is green and nobody can see you... thats normal in double agent because ubi didnt spend time making it a good game, it sucks, end of story, play another splinter cell, preferably chaos theory because if you have a pc that can run double agent, you cant run SC1 and SCPT fine, unless you have an ATI videocard which im not sure if it runs SCPT fine, or play double agent ignoring all the weird things and bugs you will encounter.

hahaha, man, I see your point. Yeah, I've played all the others and yeah I know that while standing on a shadow, no matter how thin... you can became "invisible" to your enemies. Problem here is...in the first level...with all that snow one would think that you must find a good shadow to hide...but...there's the problem...there'w my dilema...as long as the indicator is green...it doesn't even matter if I stand in the middle of the snow...without any shadow being casted on me...I'm invisible to the enemies.

To put the specific example in which I realize of this:

there's an area in the first mission...which you acces by using the cable thing (damn my limited english) the area full of guards where there is this gate, a pair of containers, and a little room with a dude looking at a computer (next to it is a computer wich you can hack to open the gate)...well anyway in that area, between the metal stairs which end right in front of this gate and the room where the computers and the dude are...there's a quite illuminated area. If I stand up in the middle of it...my indicator is still green...and I'm invisible. I mean... is not that there's a tiny shadow and it's just unrealistic...but it's litteraly imposible to "not be seen" when you are in the middle of the snow, no shadow casted on you, wearing a black suit. It's just weird. Is this normal?... Am I supossed to not be seen in taht area?

PS: sniperbr0, he, I laugh and cried with your post. You really seem to be right in that Ubisoft care quite less for this game...I mean this is the first time somethign like this happens.

I hate to say this but i know from experience, the game just gets worse after that first mission.

If you are lucky and you have patience you might be able to deal with all the bugs. Just look through this forum to get an idea of how many there are.

If you aren't a patient person, like me, then you might as well just take the DVD out now and put it on the shelf.

...mmm...I have the feeling that Chaos Theory is as far as I'm gonna get to play in the Splinter cell series...a pitty...but if the illumination is like this and, as both of you have noticed, it only gets worse with all the bugs then...well...ahm...looking at the bright side...as an Argentinian, I was getting kind of tired of fighting russians, frenchs, and, he, I've got to say the south-americans were specially stupids in the series...which is sort of insulting...but fun too...he...also fighting the "nicaraguanian army" in Ghost Recon...well, anyway...I guess I'll just head up for "Death To Spies".

Thanks for your help though.

PS: lets hope for the best with Conviction...(I do want to see what "evil comunist" cliché enemy they come up with this time, hehe)

Happy New Year!

so you are argentinian, i was sure you were latin because you used the word illumination, which is a very rough translation of the word iluminación, or iluminação (portuguese), i have used it myself many times before, then somebody told me the proper word to be used is "lighting", which is exactly the same meaning as iluminación as you are trying to say.

dont confuse "lighting" with "lightning", a lightNing is that eletric bolt that comes from the sky during storms

Yeah, the lightning/ lighting is actually me writing in a very dark enviroment, not knowing whch key I'm pressing on the keyboard. The "illumination" was because I'm very used to theatrical language (not in english but mind you, I did translated literally, hehe). Anyway, are you latin yourself? Where are you from?

mmm...well football isn't exactly my strenght but...let me guess...Brazil??

PS.: If you are from Brasil, let me tell you this, funny thing, three friends of mine who don't know each other are going to Brasil for theur holydays. Meeeen...the last time I went to Parati I had my best holydays...I mean...the beach...The ICECREAMS...damn...and of course the "garotas". I hope I don't sound like a cliché turist...hehe, but, mind you, what can you espect we got the empty Pampa...but since we sold most of it to the English and the US...well it kind of lost its charm...plus I live in Buenos Aires...so I need my quote of "non-dirty-beach".

Anyway, if your not from Brasil then, well, this was probably a pretty lame answer, hehe.

PS2: Hey, btw, fully sincere here, Brasil's team IS the best of the world. So its kind of hard to compare it. (Even if our team is quite good too)

Anyway, hope my guess is right. Smile

yes your guess is right hehe!

yea the best things here in brazil are the food, the beach and of course, the girls! man i went to europe in july, there were some pretty girls but their bodies had no "meat" if you know what i mean, they were so skinny, and so white, and no boobs or asses at all... looks like they all want to look like some model like gisele bunchen (i dont know how to spell her last name hehe, even though shes brazilian), she has a pretty face but her body has nothing in my opinion...

i just wish the weather in brazil was colder like argentina, many of my friends travel to buenos aires during summer because its too hot here, people start to feel sick because its too hot, its horrible, i try to imagine how it would be like in egypt.

i dont see anything special about ice creams here though, i think they were supposed to be the same there in buenos aires.

well if you love beaches you should go to Fernando de Noronha, its an island separated from the continent, its near the state of pernambuco here in brazil, top right corner, the most beautiful and natural beaches in the world are there, and you dont need to use sun protectors, the sun doesnt burn your skin there because the Ozone layer isnt as damaged as it is in Rio, because theres no pollution there, so you dont get toasted, just rotted a bit hehe.

if you want girls the best place is porto seguro in bahia, the hottest girls are there, hottest parties too.

and if you want ice cream... well, anywhere here you should find it hehe

btw i must disagree with you about brazil's soccer team, i think they suck, they choose only the "stars" to play, only the famous ones, and leave the ones that got real talent on the bench, thats ridiculous, a month ago we had a match between brazil's world cup team and a team made of the best players in brazil's championship, the team made of best players beat 3 to 1 the world cup's team.

i dont know if its like that with argentina's team but i think it is, they want the "stars" playing just to make more money with sponsorship.

Well, here in Argentina is the same, only people is more stupid so most of them don't even realize.

Sorry about the Ice-cream obsesion; it's just that when I was in Parati I tried for the very first time in my life those places where you serve yourselfe as much icecream as you want, with all the extra chocolate, and shananagans you can think of, and you pay acording to its weight. That's an icecream paradise. (along with the beach and the chicks, hehe)

I think in the end one likes another place (like I prefer Brasil, rather than Arg) because once we find confort, we lose our excuse to feel miserable. So we move on, searching for another paradise. That's why I would never live in Brasil: Paradise is a place we want to be in. But once we reahc it we face the abyss on the other side. That's why I love to go to Brasil from time to time. Because when I'm back I want more of it. heheh

Wow, from "illumination" in Splinter Cell to Brasil's soccer team. Now THAT'S some real talking. Smile

Back on topic now. Veryhappy

What difficulty level are you playing on? Maybe if you put it on the harder ones, you will get noticed buy the guards easier. I think that the higher the difficulty, the smarter the guards, and you die faster.
