I recently bought the original splinter on dvd (it's part of a tom clancy collection) and i have a intel duo core 2 cpu, geforce 8600 gt 512 ram video card plus x-fi sound card & 4 gigs of ram running on windows xp home edition and i keep getting flickering at the bottom left corner of my screen.
what can i do to stop it or do i need to live with it?

You probably have to live with it. NVidia cards and drivers do not work as well with the series as the AMD/ ATI video cards and drivers do. You will probably run into a problem with seeing where spotlights are too.
