Is there a way to change display settings without going into the game??? I was thinking about changing everything to a default setting and then see if I can get the game to start without the error.

Are you sure it is a sort of graphic card problem? Last week I could play the game properly, until replacing a ram on my motherboard wrongly, then my motherboard burnt, also rams and cpu. I purchased new ones, didn't change other parts, but I could't launch the game. When I double click on scdalauncher on my desktop, system freezes and I must reboot. Also I receive must check error when I double click on splintercell4.exe in scda-offline\system folder. Maybe it is a motherboard problem? Maybe connection of cables? Sorry for my bad English.

I'm pretty sure it isn't a hardware problem... because the error came out of nothing... without any hardware changes.

mavigokyuzu from what i understand of ur post u basically replaced ur entire comptuer except the HD which u just hooked up to the new stuff and hoped it would work..... if this is the correct interpretation then u need to wipe ur computer clean and set up windows again if u dont not do this then it will be a miracle anything will work correctly on ur PC

Yes you are right, but I had already formatted my hdd after brought my new machine to home (I also tried to launch the game before format). It is strange, everything is same in my system comparing to previous one except new cpu, mainboard and rams. Today I updated drivers of some devices, installed service pack 1 (it wasn't installed previous one), net framework 3, the last 4in1 drivers etc. but unfortunately nothing happened. This is the reason why I suspect it is a hardware problem or not.

is there a way to install the directX off of the disk without completely unistalling/reinstalling the whole game?

I, like so many others, am pissed at this games repeated instability. I upgraded my video card just to play this game and this is my reward?

The game worked fine for a couple of weeks and now I'm getting this error after another crash.

yea you can install directx right off the disk, just browse it and you will find a dx folder which contains a setup.exe which installs dx 9.0c

ARG!
-reinstalling directx from disk didn't work
-removing the splintercell64 folder didn't work
-adding -II just changes the error message from the "can't launch sam" error to the **must check** error!

The only common thread I see is that all of us who were able to play at one point all experienced a system crash on the ship when we started having problems (I had PLENTY of crashes before this point in the game but could always restart)

I guess I'm at the mercy of the developers to come out with a patch for my $50 alpha release!

This sucks!

btw - card is an x1600 512mb, but I think it's safe to say that the game is **** on any "supported" card!
