at the same sight as teh mig-29smt video (http://virtual-jabog32.de -theres a link in the smt thread below this one), there is a video called Ras des flots.....this thing is hillarious, thrilling, and completely illegal in any man's air force. these French aviators are in a mixed formation of three planes (Mirage 2000N, F-1, 2 seat Jaguire) going at least 500+ knts about, oh, maybe 10 meters off the water Blink

It looks like N.Africa, maybe Chad, because its along a desert beach. there is a camera in the aft cockpit of the Jag, and this guy is as good a videographer as the pilot is an aviator. there appears to be another aircraft taking FLIR shots of the 3 from above. THere is a bit of censoring to hide the ID apparently, but these guys are so low that they are making incredible wakes in the water (seen well in 2 shots). there are over the shoulder views of the mirages, as well as thru the cockpit shots, and they keep flyiung past an old lighthouse that towers far above thier altitude.

The music is perfectly matched to this, and the editing is very good. Some great flir shots from the ohter planes on the deck of ships and each ohter. Every time i wathch this thing i just crack up and get a rush. Its 33 mb, is abotu 3.5 min long.

Im also amazed at how smooth the ride is in that jag......about like an F-111 it appears. They dont even climb when htey bank to turn, the wingtips just get within a few feet of the water, and the shots of the shadows right in front of your face are wild. Some brass in L'armee de l'air must be going nuts at this.....
I HIGHLY recomend this, even if you have to let it dnload on dial up half the night like i did.

cool, thanx....I dunno if they just have alot of brass, or the French AF is just apathetic about its regs, or they just take partying to an extreme.

The last time i had seen film like that was of Isreali F-4Es on the deck in the 73 yom kippur war. and that was on the news when i was in high school. I still havent found any of that wars combat footage on the net yet.

In the past years some Mirages have crashed there in the desert, but I don't know if it was due to low flying or mechanical failures.

vol tres tres bas seems to be a 'remix' of ras de flots with Indian music. The FLIR shots of the beach babe and the jogging man are movies converted to black n white with some FLIR symbology superimposed onto them. This can be seen by the shades of grey. Flir sees heat, not colour. Oherwise the French videos sre awesome.

The way the French jets turn low over water in ras de flots, they must be possesing some very stable alt. hold system.
