I hope the Korean pilots don't blackout now when they move from F4 to F15K. I guess you will recognize them when they are in town cause the facial expression like this one -> Big Grin <- just like the monkey in a G accelerator....

I live in New Malden, London, which has more expatriate Koreans than any other place in the world (a Korean writer went to England, stayed in New Malden, didn't go anywhere else and wrote about it, or something similar). Perhaps the RoKAF can spare a couple of F-15Ks to defend New Malden? Big Grin

They could take off from the A3 - the overpass by the Burlington Roundabout would give them a ski-lift STOL launch!

Hey, if they do, try and vector one up to Enfield, I could use something like that to make my day interesting.

Nice. It's good that nations like Korea, Germany, India etc. don't have to think which one is better, Su, Mig or F, they just buy whatever they want Smile And when you think about it - it doesn't matter, they're all **** good.

do you know ROKAF F-4 won legend in redflag? ROKAF F-4 and USAF F-15C fought 2:2 air combat training in redflag. ROKAF pilots using old aircraft better than USAF but they're won...
how do u think about that? is it just look like stupid USAF pilot? NO WAY!! ROKAF pilot knew enoguh about they're aircraft and using pretty good tactics. you didn't know all(every country) combat pilot's spirit and faith. I respect all fighter pilot. they're warrior before just pilot.

Well, I have seen photos of an F-16 in the gunsite of an F-4, F-15 in the gunsite of F-14, MiG-29 in gunsite of F-16 and F/A-18, so yeah, any plane can beat any other plane if the pilot knows his plane well enough.

The F-14 is actually not a bad dogfighter when compared to the F-15. Yes the F-15 can sustain higher turn rate above 15,000ft but they are close. When the F-14Ds first turned up they put some Eagle pilots in their place.

And I have seen F/A-18s and MiG-29s in the gunsights of F-14As.

Well, "Top Gunn" its a movie based on a real stuff, there are still academies where the best pilots of USAF are puted on extreme fighting situations. They uses F14 F18 and light aircrafts like F4, so there is very common to see F/A-18s and F-14Ds in the gunsights of F-4p. So i think its very important to have well organaized tactics and experimented pilots than air superiority aircrafts (course there is a limit XD).

F-4s aren't exactly what I would call a light aircraft. Wink

Sure F-4s are light, I mean come on, they only weigh 44,000 lbs with nothing but gas in them. An Antonov An-225 weighs 700,000lbs in the same condition.... No. F-4s are fat planes. A-4s are the little tiny nimbly bimbly planes.

The thing is if the foolish cowardly Iraqis and the other arab pilots had not fought in MiG's , the reputation of MiG's would be sky high.
Guess any plane which an Arab or muslim touches makes it loose its reputation Smile

Thing is...Iraqi pilots were trained by some of the best in the world, including pilots from the Soviet Union, Germany, France, Belgium, and yes, even the US, among others. Let's not bash Arab and Muslim pilots, this is an international forum, and the Saudis did quite well with Western hardware and support. The Iranians did quite well with Western hardware, but virtually no support. Smile

First off, Top Gun is nothing like it is in real life with taking 15 minutes to get a lock on another aircraft(the F-14 can take out enemy fighters from 50+ miles away) and the Mig-28s which are really F-5s painted black. Also It is the USN that has Topgun, not the USAF. And F4s are not the best dogfighters, if it weren't for their missiles, they would've gone down a lot more in Vietnam.

Edit: Sorry if I sound like an *******, btw Smile

In Top Gun classes, they only teach you the fundamentals of close a2a combat. Long distance need not apply here. And the USN no longer owns NAS Miramar or Top Gun...it is now MCAS Miramar Big Grin trained by....Marines!

I live about 3 miles from Miramar, and I miss the days when it was Top Gun, but the F-18's are still pretty cool to watch fly by, and now we get Cobra helicopters, too.

Top Gun moved to Fallon in Nevada, although I'm not sure it still goes by that name. Here's a brief rundown from GlobalSecurity.org, so I don't know how accurate it is:

"Aircraft currently stationed at NAS Fallon include the F/A-18, F-14, A-6, and F-5 jet aircraft, and the H-3 and HH-1 helicopters. The Naval Fighter Weapons School (TOPGUN), Carrier Airborne Early Warning Weapons School and a Construction Battalion Unit (CBU) have recently relocated here. Currently NAS Fallon is the only Naval Facility where advanced integrated Carrier Air Wing strike training can take place, combining realistic flight training in electronic warfare, air-to-ground, air-to-air weapons delivery, special weapons delivery, and enemy evasion tactics. Military aircraft from the Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, and Nevada Air National Guard train at NAS Fallon."

They also have block 15 F-16 A/B "aggressor" aircraft that were originally headed for Pakistan before an embargo of some kind stopped shipment. Also they fly against "F-21" Kfirs operated by a civilian company known as ATAC. Man I would love to see the skies around NAS Fallon. Razz
