As posted on the ATG website

"...ATG has therefore decided to halt development of the Javelin at this time. Further action will be decided upon after proper communication with our strategic business partner."

As being someone who is/was close to the project do you believe it is the end for the Javelin.??
It looked very close to being a commercial product.

Thanks

Oh, sorry I hadn't given an update on that, MrChavez. As of 13:00 on Wednesday, December 19th, 2007, ATG has closed their doors. I doubt very seriously that the program will start again.

Has the market for a next generation military jet trainer vanished? What aircraft will now be the frontrunner?

Thanks

The Javelin program was largely funded by IAI and they were the biggest prospective buyer of the Mk20 version. But, as you know, Israel started having serious problems that were more pressing more than a year ago. They withdrew from the program at that time. I knew they were in serious trouble when I ended up running into their L-39 crew chief working for a different company. He had been laid off, and the L-39 was returned to the leasing company. Couldn't say anything about that stuff until now because of the NDA.

Personally, I don't think the VLJ market is going to be going very far any time soon. The ViperJet has had some success and AFAIK is in production, along with the Cessna Mustang. The SportJet program that I was also a part of has hit a major snag...the prototype crashed on takeoff. The problem with these aircraft is that they have very limited capacity and they are expensive...$2.5-3 million each! But, an old L-39 in excellent condition can be had for around 1/5th that cost, so those are springing up everywhere. In the near future are refurbished and Westernized Su-25s which will probably also be available at a fraction of the cost of a new VLJ.
