Hi Everyone,
The Su-27 has ~2.3 Mach top speed and about 18,000m service ceiling. I tried to reach that in LOMAC. I could not come close. Anyone achieved that? Once I got 16,000m (with clean config) and then got into deep deep stall. I could not recover until it hit ground! Maybe they even simulated permanent engine damage. Is there special skill required to achieve top speed or service ceiling? Thanks, |

i achieved that ceiling before but not the speed. I could if i just dive, and recovering from a stall is fairly easy.

It's been debated over on the bug forums. All planes in this game are horridly underpowered. Especially my beloved starship...*sob*....
Don't try to zoom climb. Don't try to get up past 30-40 angels. And for God's sake please do not attempt any type of turn with those big ole' gas tanks hangin off your plane. |

Here is one curve I made, thought it be fun since it was so long since we did this. If we did this recently I missed that post, OK, here is one curve, clean Su27 full tank and FC 1.12a:
TIME IAS TAS ALT ======= ===== ====== ======= 00:00 0 0 17 02:00 810 1240 8080 04:00 800 1620 12210 06:00 810 1910 14200 08:00 810 2110 15380 --- resting accelerating here --- 10:00 880 2290 15380 12:00 810 2310 16620 14:00 820 2360 16620 --- close to speed limit it seems --- 16:00 750 2330 17640 18:00 680 2300 18630 20:00 690 2320 18630 Then the usual finale: zero-G unload and dive, bouncing off the layer at ALT 14100m speed 1060 IAS smooth pullback ending in a 70 degree climb and ending in a max alt of 31.040 m. That result is not sensational when it comes to LockOn, you can do better. This was my first and only attempt and I knew no numbers, it is possible you can just charge up there quicker hit the Alt-3 autopilot walk away and come back and do the last step climbs by manually. Fir the hi alt record attemp this time I wonder if perhaps I should have bounced off 15000m instead, I don't remember how we did it last year ...... |

Actualy the Mig-29 will hapily go to 20000m (or 60000 feet) and keep supersonic. In order to achieve this you need to do a mach 0.9 from low altitudes and then let the speed increase at 25000 feet and then climb as fast as you can while supersonic.

It seems that when you go too high, the plane will simply STOP CLIMBING, as if it just hit a wall or something. (you can see this if you hit F3... if you have the novice settings enabled.)
