An Il-76 refueling a MiG-29.
Notice the underwing plylons??!! Is Russia running out of bombers or what? Link to page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:MiG-29_refuelling.jpg |

The military il-76's have this feature, it's not in lomac though. It also has a gun pod in the left landing gear pod. |

Can you provide a source on this, it seems rather odd to me to have cannons in the landing gear bay of such a large a/c. how is it employed?
Some MPAs such as the An-72P and ART-42-400MP Surveyor carry pods but they are smaller and more maneuverable. The only armament I have seen on the 76s' are the tail cannons. We have them here in the IAF. |

Must be an FOB if the -76 is refueling the -29 on the ground. My guess is the underwing pylons are for countermeasure pods and/or chaff/flare dispensers, not bombs; they're too small to carry anything useful except a pod or a dispenser. C-130's can carry a chaff/flare dispenser and/or a countermeasures pod on the outer (small) wing pylon; on the old AC-130A Spectre, an ALQ-87 jamming pod was a standard load-out on each outer wing pylon in Vietnam. |
