The Raptor uses an low probablity of intercept radar that works by uing many low energy frequencies right? I dont see how this would be hard to detect...how many objects are cruising around at mach 1.5 emiting low energy radio signals and dont show up as a radar contact? Could someone please clairify this to me please!

It emits at a frequency of less than one milirad per square centimeter from Pr if [(Gr-1.4) = x]2.

where: Pr = Received peak power ( W )
Pt = Transmitted peak power ( W )
Gt = Gain of transmitter antenna ( ratio, not dBi )
Gr = Gain of receiver antenna ( ratio, not dBi )
l = Transmitted wavelength ( m, cm, in, etc. )
s = Radar cross-section of target - RCS ( m2, cm2, in2, etc. )
R = Range ( m, cm, in, etc. )
RTx = Transmitter range to target ( m, cm, in, etc. )
RRx = Receiver range from target ( m, cm, in, etc. )
c = speed of light

So, if (y5-1.4) = x, then y is always equal to 1

You'll notice there are less than 12 cochranes per rotator splint at each dihedral unit. That's less than 1/16 the output of a normal fighter.

In order to see the radar, you must be listening on the proper frequency, PRF, for the proper amount of time. A pulse train, of a specific frequency, if its visible for less than X number of microseconds, will be dismissed as noise by the decoder circuitry and never displayed as a contact to the operator. That is the basic principle on which LPI radar functions. Wink

Roger that, Hawg. Wink Black formulas against a dark green background though?...until my eyes adjusted, I thought you were giving a Carl Sagan lecture about the billions and billions of miles of blackness in space...I couldn't see anything in your previous post, the first time.

So the radar jumps frequencies so quickly that the RWR thinks it is just background static? Alright thanks for the explantion. And I have no idea what hawg wrote in his first post...

Oh, how I hated the Colonel, with his wee...BEADY eyes and that smug look on his face. "Oh, you're gonna buy my chicken...oh."

Dad, how could you hate...THE COLONEL?

Come on guys, let's play a "finish the quote" game.

Does that mean, that Raptor does not have spread spectrum radar? Oh buggers.

If I would be designing a new LPI radar, I'd be using sub SNR signals, which are even harder to phis out of the air :P

Looking at the money poured on the Raptor, I'd be expecting multiple platform spread spectrum interferometer in it Big Grin
