I made a mod that changes some of the troops one gets in the Necropolis. As there were no Black Knight icons, I made one, and saved it (in Paintshop Pro 9) in the different sizes needed, with alpha channels and dds setting of 32 bit. I placed the icons in the same folder as the Death Knight icons and referred the proper text document to the new icons. The icons seem to be made properly, as some of them show. But some don't show. And they were all made in an identical manner.

They show correctly in the Town Purchase Screen, the Hero Troops Screen, and the Pre-Battle Tactics Screen.

But they don't show in the Black Knight Profile Screen and the Battle Screen.

(Other than the problem with non-showing icons, this mod works fine with Hammers of Fate as well. So once I get the icons to show, I can release it as a mod for both Heroes 5 and the first expansion.)

I got help on another Heroes 5 modder forum, and the icons work perfectly now.

For those reading this who need help with making and getting creature and hero icons to show properly ingame, I will be writing a tutorial on how to do it in the near future.

Hey Sprite, maybe you could help me out with my question, since you seem to know your way around the textures etc. I originally posted it in the main forum, but apparently they only discuss the more esoteric matters there (life, death, are necros cooler than wizards?--Oy!).

I see that in the editor you are given an option to change hero portraits, but when you click on "custom icon" it wants you to find a .tga file. Basically, I just wanna switch pics between existing heroes. Can anyone tell me where in the database the hero pics reside? I had no problem changing names and bios in my database, but can not seem to locate the hero portraits. Or the pointers that call them in the game. Anyone have info on this?

Basically, I just wanna swap a few of the hero pics. I have managed to replace hero portraits using the editor, but while the results look good on the adventure screen, in the profile screens and in the fight queues, the portraits appear washed out. Besides, I would rather permanently swap the portraits in my own game database (using the portraits the game came with, only assigning them to different heroes). I have already permanently altered the names and bios without problems so I assume I can do likewise with the portraits. Thanks again.
