I didn't want to include this stuff in the actual Patch 1.3 bug thread as it would get lost and possibly overlooked. If a mod would be so kind, maybe they could sticky this at the top.
Okay, here is what I have noticed so far that either needs to be fixed or could use some tweaking. - After placing water around land, when I check the map, I keep getting a lot of "Object and Craig intersection" error messages. Nowhere in any of the manuals is anything remotely similar to this so I have no clue what it is telling me is wrong. - Fills do not cover 100% of the area you paint. Some may like this, but some use this to completely block off areas. We need an option added to tell the editor how much of a percentage we want it to fill. - The Inferno town will not let you assign the 250 gold specialty to it. It keeps resetting itself back to having no specialty. - The Elemental Conflux does not allow you to set it to have all four Elementals in it. If you click Custom and specify that you want all of them to appear, it will still only allow one random one to show up once you play the map. - We need more Ambient Light options. Right now I see Dungeon, Haven, and Sylvan. Where are the options for Academy, Inferno, and Necropolis? - We need more Fill options added. What we have is good, but it would help immensely if we had some for all water objects, all mountains, all bushes, and all rocks. Pretty much a fill for just about everything. - We need an option to shut off the animation while working in the map editor. All that movement on screen really slows down our systems a lot. I have a strong computer and even mine is almost brought to a standstill when I zoom out. - An Undo option would be very beneficial and would be much quicker than having to highlight and delete what you just did. - A Check All button for the heroes would help as well. It's much quicker to get rid of the ones we don't want than to have to click every hero on the list so they appear. |

I noticed several times now (on two different test maps) that sometimes things can not be edited once placed down. Mind you, this is different from when I didn’t know HOW to select things. Let me give you an example. I place three towns on the map. Town one, two, and three. Afterwards I can select, and edit, town one, and three. But for some reason I can’t edit town two. I can select and delete it though.

Found another one.
For some reason the name Freida is listed in the artifacts section in the editor. I gave it to one of my heroes to see what it was, and it's a picture of the Haven hero Freyda's head. No idea why this is in the artifacts section. |

alias-hw the town you couldn't modify was one of these:
-Biara's citadel -Demon Sovereign's Citadel -Inferno_town_ruines These objects were used in the campaigns for scenarios were the events were scripted , so they are not interactive.(but you can modify the standard inferno town to look like one of these or modify their properties to be interactive) Maybe hey are in list jus to show us that we can make use of them. KingImp In the third campaign Markal has to take Godric's daughter Freyda to a town and Freyda is shown as an arefact in Markal's inventory, probably that's why is in the editor . |

For the life of me, I wouldn’t be able to tell you. At the moment (when I’m playing with the editor) I’m not making a real map; just goofing around to get a feel for the tools and such. The map where this problem happened has long since been deleted. But as far as I remember I had the same problem with a hero as well. But again, I’m not sure anymore at this point. Sorry that I can’t give you a clear yes or no there. H.W. The real intelligence of mankind is not measured in IQ, but in the results of actions taken. |

When I'm adding objects to the map the only way I've found to get the current object I'm placing deselected is to switch to tiles, then revert back to objects. Am I missing something?
I really wish HOMM5 had snow objects and terrain, and more neutral creatures. There seems to be plenty of everything else. |

Actually, this one confused me for a while as well, until I just happened to hit the Esc button and that made whatever I was holding disappear. |

I've been having trouble with crashing at load time with a small experimental map. After reading HW's post, I tried deleting and recreating both towns and heroes. It still crashes at Load. Interesting effect, the custom game selection menu shows two instances of the map (both with the latest name, "version E"), but one shows as "2" plaeyrs, the other as "2, FFA". Final_Boss has a similar problem with a map that has text in both English and Spanish versions (three show up instead of two, or only one version shows with two of one language) but it doesn't crash (he made a fun map with lovely terrain).
I'm wondering if when the game crashes (because of my mistake making the map) the game leaves something in the file system which gets picked up when it tries to load a later version of the map. I don't want to continue working on my main map, when I fear that at some point, after a lot of work, it will begin crashing and I can't back out. I have no clue why the experimental map crashes. The 100% fill does work, just click on the soft button and it will fill 100%.

45° oriented fences, How to rotate multi-tile fences elements as in the tutorial ?
Hi ! In Nival's Practical Guide are featured 45° (or perhaps arbitrarily) oriented fences elements, just as in the image below : But fences elements occupy two tiles on the field and the editor only allows 90° rotations. How could I reproduce fences as in the image ? However I fear that fences in the editor release version we got are not the same as in the demo, hence can not be rotated that way... |

Maybe if you tried turning the map, then placing the fences. Then turning the map agian to place the next ones. By turning the map I mean rotate it. |

These are not exclusively Editor Bugs/Suggestions, but most of them are.
1. Handle the 3D graphics more efficiently. I don't consider the 2 larger-sized maps to be useable in the current game. The game bogs down. I have a modern system with an ATi x1900 and 2GB Dram this game should not drag it down at 1280x1024 at 'normal' quality, but it does. Its really bad that way. 2. Option to turn off animation in the Editor 3. Abandoned mines aren't random. They always become the 1st resource checked on the list. 4. Windmill and other messages don't always get onscreen. 5. Seer Huts aren't completely deployed. Some quests are not displayed properly, although the quest may be completed. 6. Random castles can't be named. Random castles can't have what would be their actual creatures assigned in the garrison. 7. Smooth out the 'bumpy' water. If the water is smooth then ships shouldn't bob up and down because some parts were 'lowered' and others weren't. Its always gonna have a little of the 'bathtub fleet' look to it, but the boats should ride smooth and not sink half ways either. 8. The editor 'error' comments are almost completely useless, since it reports tons of stuff that doesn't matter. How about some actual syntax and punctuation checking? Scripting is powerful, but its not the whole answer. The editor really needs more options built in. Scripting is too technical for most people. Suggestions: - timed events built in to the editor. This is a very basic game mod. - Putting fog of war back on a map that was 'Open'. - Messages from creatures can come before or after the battle, or whether or not there is a battle. - Witch Huts have selectable skills. - More neutral creatures. |

I had this happen to a map I'm making. It took me awhile to get rid of the error. I decided to add water to give a impression of boiling under lava and swamp. The map had objects placed on it when I did this. I had several craig errors, got rid of all but one when I took off the water. I finally found the object with the problem, it was on the other side of the map. I never placed water on that side of the map. Once I moved the object, you could see the ground terrian looked different under it. It looked like rocks and the ground having lifted up. I can visually see where the object was because the terrian is very different from any other. I think if you want to add water it should be done before placing any objects on the map. |

Know what's most annoying in HoMM 5:th Map Editor? That there's one simple option is missing that was for example in HoMM 3:rd Map Editor and that Option is "Undo" & "Redo"! It's so annoying when you're creating some high hills for example and ecidently gone to wrong area and make high hills on area where you've already spended hours in creation of this territory and now it's partly with high hills on it and you can do nothing (At least I haven't found any other things that could help with that thing) except trying to lower the hills, but that will take again hours and will never return the created zone into same position as it was. Why they can't apply the Undo thing? That's the thing which almost every programme have. Can't wait till they will finally add it, which will make map creating much more enjoyble! Oh yeah and one more addition!
In Map Editor when you placing an object like Random Moster, I think there should be an option, a selection between which levels a random monster will be placed, for example 3-5 level monster. The same with the treasures, a random resourse, where you could select from types of resourses that it will be randomazed to. Such of notices I have had so far.. but it seems there's no people around here anymore.. but at least I don't know any other places to send my notices or suggestions. Thanks for your time! |
