(WIP means Work In Progress)

I'm so used to these texture replacers in Morrowind, and when I saw how blurry many of the textures are in Heroes 5, I decided to make a texture replacer mod.

I'm starting with the dirt and swamp water textures. Some are completely new, and others are the game textures tweaked and sharpened by me. All of the textures are saved in the way Nival did, and have the same file size, so other than extra room taken in your data files, there should be no effect on game performance.

Here's some pics of the dirt replacer textures ingame:

And here's the grassy swamp water texture imgame. It looks cool, but it can be a bit unsettling seeing the grass swaying and swirling in the water, so I will have a version without the swamp water texture as well.

Excellent! Keep up the good work. I'm curious as to when/where we may see some of these modifications so we can start using them ourselves!

Here's the files for the dirt and swamp water textures. I have included a readme with installation info and full credits.

Redwoodsprite...I downloaded the new textures but didn't install them because I am somewhat confused as to how they are supposed to work and where to put them.
For installation, I can just unpack the zipped file and copy the "textures" folder to the Games' data file, right? I'm not going to pretend I know how the game knows to reference a new folder.
Now, this is just to substitute textures for maps that have already been generated, right?

I take it that there is no way to use these textures during the creation of the map, eh? I could not determine the file extensions of the textures in the AdvMaptile folder of the Editor because I thought maybe I could just load the new textures there.

Sorry I didn't respond before, but this forum is kindof dead and I didn't get any notification of a reply in my email.

"In the Ubisoft folder, place the data folder in the Heroes of Might and Magic V folder. You will get a "Confirm Folder Replace" popup message. This is normal, and no files are actually replaced in your .pak files. Choose "Yes to All".

Then play Heroes 5 as normal, and you will see the texture changes ingame."

Basically, you're placing the folder named data in the same folder that contains Ubisoft's data folder. The game reads the textures fine even not in a .pak. And once I finish all the textures, I'll release them in in .pak form.

I'm not certain if the replacer textures show in the editor, but they will show during any game, new or already started.

Here's the next set, grass and crop field replacer textures. Again, as this is a WIP, I'm releasing the textures loose rather than in a .pak. Once I've finished all the textures, I'll release a couple different .pak versions with all the textures:
Heroes 5 Grass and Dirt Field Texture Replacer

Here's a few pics:

And comparison shots of the original dirt field texture and the replacer texture ingame:
