This is a problem I have had since the editor was released and someone said that all you had to do was click the Soft button and then the Fills would cover 100% of the area you indicated.
Well, two problems. First off, the only Soft button is in the Tiles tab, not the Fills tab and second, I clicked Soft, set it to different stengths (imagine that, another typo by Nival), and then tried to fill an area. It is still not covering the entire area. I could still walk through with a hero if I so chose to.
How do you get this damn thing to actually fill all 100% of the area you indicated? And no, that Mask option to block things, even though you see an opening is not an option for what I need to do.
If I understand what you're asking, you can try this:
Click soft, move the fill up to 10, and use the select an area to fill, (the highest number of squares filled, the one where you select the largest fill where you select an area and right click to fill. There's 3 or 4 different sizes to fill an area, like 1 square, 3 squares, and the last one which fills the whole map if you select it.)
The Hard/Soft buttons threw me for a second because I would have assumed that "Soft" would mean to apply lightly, but quite the opposite. However, to answer your question...I haven't been able to get a 100% fill that was impenatrable. Then again, I haven't tried setting the brush settings prior to selecting "Fill" because I thought Hard/Soft applied to the Tiles. To ensure FILLS don't have pathways, you may have to repaint the FILL area with MASK. That way, it will also prevent monsters from Spawning on bald tiles.
I'm going to try Swiftari's suggestion, just to see if it works.

No, that's not what I'm asking. The problem is after you select the area to fill and then click the Fill button, there will still be spots within that area that nothing was placed. I want the whole area that I selected to be filled, not just bits and pieces here and there and this Soft button, whether it be on 10 or 100 does not fill it 100%.

The problem is I don't want to do that. I specifically want to fill an entire area and then cut a path through it. I can't cut the exact path I want if there are missing areas because Nival wasn't intelligent enough to allow a 100% fill rate. In order to do what I want, I would have to place each damn tree one at a time and then take out the path.
Once again, Nival has no clue what they are doing.
I see now what you're saying, I was confusing the tiles and the fill selections.
The only way I can think of to fill an area completely is to use the fill button, then use the one that turns the squares you can't walk on red and put tree stumps on the squares that aren't red.
I can't check the editor to give you the names of the tabs because my XP computer's mouse and keyboard don't work anymore. This computer has win me installed and is not good enough to run system shock 2 smoothly let alone homm5. But it works for the might and magic games and thats what I have it for.
