Has anybody used a lot of visual effects in their map?
I have a map where I put tons of visual effects on it. It's a too big for you size so it's still being made. After working on the map for over a week, my tv/monitor screen has started to randomly blur into running colors on half of the screen. This happens while watching tv now too. Does anybody think the map editor will effect my tv picture? Has anybody that has their tv as a monitor made any maps? My tv hasn't done it for 2 days and I haven't worked on my map for 2 days. My tv was purchased new in April 2006. I would like to work on my map but I'm afraid it will start the running colors agian. So am I grasping at straws or is there a possiblity that the map editor if too much visual is on the screen, it can mess up the picture on your tv? |

It just happened agian. That means it has nothing to do with the map editor.
So once it clears up agian, I can go back to working on my map. Which is wonderful! |

I think you should take your tv back under warranty heh.

I'm trying to do that. The tv was a gift from my husband. He found it at the cheapest online site and never filled out the warrenty card.

It sounds like your TV, not the Map Editor; I think your TV just needs to be degaussed (there would be a button, or menu selection, that degausses it). It's a digital TV, right? You can make a computer monitor show blurry colors by putting something magnetic (a piece of metal) close up to the screen. It's not harmful, just funky looking, and monitors have degauss buttons ("gauss" is a unit of magnetism named after the same mathematician who invented "Gauss Distribution" in statistics).
It is theoretically possible for software (such as a game) to damage a monitor (e.g. by driving the refresh rates higher than the capacity of the hardware) but that is so rare that nobody would believe it. Good luck, hope you find the degauss button, Yoof P.S. The maps I make crash so much, and I have so few clues why, that I've suspended my own development of a map. My hat's off to you guys bulling it out, and I have enjoyed the user-contributed maps at Elrath. |

I figured out it's not the editor. It's the sharp flat screen liquid crystal/aquos tv.
I can't find what you're talking about in the menu. We couldn't get this hooked up like a monitor with the digital, we had to use some kind of video. SL or something like that, Del worked with us but we couldn't get it so we went with the video one. I don't think I've ever had one of my maps crash while playing it. But I had a single player map completely done and was testing it. I wanted to forget the layout of the map to make the map fun to test. So I started a new map and saved it under the top slot without paying attention. Ouch! |

Degaussing is something you do with crt monitors and tv`s, lcd screens don`t need it, that`s why there`s no menu option for it on yours.

Thank you BT!
I'm waiting for the tech person to call back. If I don't hear back today, I'll goto the store tomorrow. Two days is more than enough time to return a call. |
