Boat stopped at optimal position, weaponsofficer activated, small gyroangle, good weather conditions, slow target, tubes opened, starting eel immediately after new TDC setup = 6000m and more!

I 've made some experiments with invisible targets at 12 km distance - you can lock on for some seconds - and even scored some hits.

What are you after?

I would like to fire at a range between 2000 - 3000 meters but i do not know from how far away i can fire to be relatively certain to score a hit. I have been surfing the internet to see if i can find any articles written by old captains or somebody how would know these things, about uboat attack tactics and launch ranges of torpedoes, but i just can not find this information anywhere.

2000 m to 3000 m is no problem with weapons officers help! My preferred distance is ~ 4500 m - I stay outside of the convoys.

What's your realism setting?

The torpedoes had major problems with depthsettings and fuses, but I never read something about gyroangle. I think it was a question of the overall circumstances - weather, area, own and target speed, position to target...
There should be some data available from the U-Boot Wardiaries. They were not destroyed by order!
Afair the germans needed in average 4 torpedos to sink one ship over the complete wartime.
This includes the major malfunctions in the first years.
(Afair Us ratio was 14:1!)

Sounds great, i am playing the mod "tonnage war" with a 100% realism settings.
Do you know about "timetrawellars" program "Mini tweaker" if you do can you tell me if all the values in the tweak files are based on hex ?

Never tried to play at 100% settings. Truce
It may be difficult to hit from 2000 m and more due to slightly incorrect AOB and distance values. Well - it's all a question of data gathering quality.

And - sorry - I don't use the mini tweaker.
Have you asked your questions in the subsim forums?

I will try the forums, i am getting a little tired of my watch crew being able to spot ships so far away that i can not see them myself. I mean if i am on the bridge with my binoculars and i can´t see anything but water and suddenly one of my watch crew screams "fartzeug" and i take a look and nothings there. If i can not see, he can not see that is the way it must be don´t you agree.
