I decided to get myself a new plantronics headset to replace one I used ages ago that fell apart. â£15 or there abouts in the UK.
Then I got hold of Shoot 1.6.4 which is a free program for non commercial use. Shoot A little configuration with an xml file and 10 minutes later im commanding my chief engineer with commands like periscope depth, open tube, torpedo los, down scope, crash dive, ahead full! And many more, its great being in the command room view and seeing the guy respond when you "talk" to him. I totally recommend playing with voice commands if you can as it really adds to the atmosphere. |

I would but then i would have to use head phones and i would miss my 5.1 stero too much
|

Yeah, thats sound cool...
I used the voice command when i played enigma: rising tide. Its pretty cool to sit back actually 'give' the orders. If you could post a more detailed description of how you actually set this up..Id realy appreatiate it.. thanks Krycek1972 |

I still use my 5.1 sound and it doesnt interfere, only use the headphones late at night when those thumping diesels get abit too much.
If you have a decent set-up you can still have it loud on the 5.1 setup and talk normally into the microphone and it works all the time. All the information needed to set it up is over on the shoot site, its pretty easy to get going really... it uses the microsoft speech recognition tool which is linked from that site. The xml file needed to create a profile is easier to work with if you use one already generated from a similar game. They have a section for profiles you can download and I chose the Destroyer Command one (it having similar properties in commands to SH3). Using notepad you can edit the file for the commands you want to talk and corresponding keypresses. I left the actual turn on/off listen for commands on the caps lock key as per the original DC profile as that is also not used in SH3. Works a treat. So all you do is have Shoot running in the background with the SH3 profile you created running. Play SH3 and press the key you chose to have it "listen" for voice commands (in my case caps lock) and hey presto instant voice commands. |

Which Plantronics heaset are you using...DSP-100 PC Headset ???
thanks |

Its a plantronics audio 60. This one
Nothing special, its stereo, non folding, inline volume control with microphone cut off switch. 2 standard 2.5mm connectors for the microphone and headphones. Im using a Creative Audigy 2. Have my 5.1 speakers in the digital output so the front speaker port and microphone port are free. |

Thanks for that pointer! Im downloading it now, if i cant get it working i will be onto you hastling you lol.
Will make the game even better. |

Krycek, if you could go into the profiles folder, open up your SH3 profile, and post it here i would be greatly in debt to you.

Sure no problem, feel free to obviously tailor this to your own needs. Copy and paste into notepad, save as something like SH3.xml in the shoot profiles directory.
Copy from below not including this line..... <?xml version="1.0" encoding="iso-8859-1" ?> <!-- Silent Hunter 3 Template by Krycek1972 --> <shoot-config> <command-list> <!-- In Game Stations --> <command name="Command Room" phrase="Command Room"> <key type="F2" /> </command> <command name="Attack Periscope" phrase="Attack Scope"> <key type="F3" /> </command> <command name="Bridge" phrase="Bridge"> <key type="F4" /> </command> <command name="Navigation Map" phrase="Nav Map"> <key type="F5" /> </command> <command name="TDC" phrase="TDC"> <key type="F6" /> </command> <command name="Crew/Damage Management" phrase="Crew"> <key type="F7" /> </command> <command name="Mission Orders" phrase="Orders"> <key type="F8" /> </command> <command name="Radio Room" phrase="Radio Room"> <key type="F9" /> </command> <command name="Deck Gun" phrase="Deck Gun"> <key type="F10" /> </command> <command name="Flak Gun" phrase="Flak Gun"> <key type="F11" /> </command> <command name="Free Camera" phrase="Free Camera"> <key type="F12" /> </command> <command name="Radio" phrase="Radio"> <key type="r" /> </command> <command name="UZO" phrase="UZO"> <key type="u" /> </command> <command name="Weapons Management" phrase="Weapons"> <key type="i" /> </command> <command name="Observation Scope" phrase="Observation Scope"> <key type="o" /> </command> <command name="Hydrophone" phrase="Hydrophone"> <key type="h" /> </command> <command name="Captains Log" phrase="Captains Log"> <key type="k" /> </command> <command name="Radio Message" phrase="Messages"> <key type="m" /> </command> <!-- View Controls --> <command name="Lock" phrase="Lock"> <key type="L" /> </command> <command name="Zoom View" phrase="Magnify"> <key type="Tab" /> </command> <command name="Binoculars" phrase="Binoculars"> <key type="B" /> </command> <command name="Down Attack Scope" phrase="Down Attack Scope"> <key type="CTRL PageDown" /> </command> <command name="Down Observation Scope" phrase="Down Observation Scope"> <key type="CTRL Delete" /> </command> <command name="Recognition Manual" phrase="Manual"> <key type="n" /> </command> <!-- Helm --> <command name="All Stop" phrase="All Stop"> <key type="0" /> </command> <command name="Ahead Slow" phrase="Ahead Slow"> <key type="1" /> </command> <command name="Ahead 1/3" phrase="Ahead OneThird"> <key type="2" /> </command> <command name="Ahead Standard" phrase="Ahead Standard"> <key type="3" /> </command> <command name="Ahead Full" phrase="Ahead Full"> <key type="4" /> </command> <command name="Ahead Flank" phrase="Ahead Flank"> <key type="5" /> </command> <command name="Back Slow" phrase="Back Slow"> <key type="6" /> </command> <command name="Back 1/3" phrase="Back OneThird"> <key type="7" /> </command> <command name="Back Standard" phrase="Back Standard"> <key type="8" /> </command> <command name="Back Emergency" phrase="Back Emergency"> <key type="9" /> </command> <command name="Hard to Port" phrase="Hard to Port"> <key type="[" /> </command> <command name="Hard to Starboard" phrase="Hard to Starboard"> <key type="]" /> </command> <command name="Rudder Amidships" phrase="Rudder Amidships"> <key type="#" /> </command> <command name="Crash Dive" phrase="Crash Dive"> <key type="c" /> </command> <command name="Surface" phrase="Surface"> <key type="s" /> </command> <command name="Maintain Depth" phrase="Maintain Depth"> <key type="a" /> </command> <command name="Periscope Depth" phrase="Periscope Depth"> <key type="p" /> </command> <command name="Snorkel Depth" phrase="Snorkel Depth"> <key type=";" /> </command> <command name="Dive" phrase="Dive"> <key type="d" /> </command> <command name="Deploy Decoy" phrase="Decoy"> <key type="j" /> </command> <command name="Silent Running" phrase="Silent"> <key type="z" /> </command> <command name="Snorkel" phrase="Snorkel"> <key type="x" /> </command> <!-- Weapon Commands --> <command name="Fire Weapon" phrase="Fire"> <key type="SPACEBAR" /> </command> <command name="Fire Torpedo" phrase="Torpedo Los"> <key type="ENTER" /> </command> <command name="Cycle Tube" phrase="Cycle Tube"> <key type="y" /> </command> <command name="Open Tube" phrase="Open Tube"> <key type="Q" /> </command> <command name="Close Tube" phrase="Close Tube"> <key type="w" /> </command> </command-list> <push-to-talk mode="toggle" initial-state="off"> <key type="CapsLock" /> </push-to-talk> </shoot-config> |

It would be great if SH3 could be added to Voice Buddy. If ever there was a sim crying out for voice commands it is SH3.
|
||||
|
Its pretty self explanatory.
The Command name is the text Shoot lists so you can see what the command is, phrase is the word you will speak for that command and the key type inside "" is the key shoot will output when you speak the phrase. Hope this helps. Maybe this belongs in the community creations forum? |

Oh by the way I have modified my SH3 commands_en.cfg to have zero (0) as my key for all stop and thats the one Shoot is outputting on.
The game was set up with ~ as all stop which on the english keyboard isnt inline with all the other engine regime commands. I havent yet figured the keycode in the commands_en.cfg to get it to use the correct key (which would be "`"). SH3 doesnt seem to be using the correct hex value or ascii codes for certain keys. Interestingly enough the zero key (0) is commented out as a second key for the all stop command. If you want to use the zero key find all_stop in the commands_en.cfg and remove the semicolon from infront of the Key1=0x30,C,"0" line. |

Wouldn't it be better if the game was shipped with built in voice recognition system like Sub Command or Dangerous Waters? Sub Command was released 4 years ago and then they had it included, why didn't the devs put this feature into SH3? It would be really cool.Fortunately we have Shoot, I also thought about it and as you are saying that it works - I'll give it a go when I have my copy.Unfortunately - Poland - relase date is May ......yes,2005....

Microsoft's Game Voice is a neat little program as well. Works like a charm! You can do voice commands too. Anyone know if Shoot is better than Game Voice?

could somebody give me a hand? I can't get my mic working. I've only ever used it for TS or Ventrilo. I always used "push to talk" also. Can someone help me out. I'm using creative Sound blaster live.

Ive not used game voice so I wouldnt know but Shoot works really well and is free.
Oblt.Fonnekold have you checked your volume properties for your soundcard in windows, make sure the microphone isnt set on mute. |

I've been thinking of getting one of these apps for SH3. Voice command was pretty much the best thing about Enigma so it will be very welcome. Thanks for posting the config file, makes life easy.

I just went into the Sound Hardware test wizard and after it reviewed my hardware and came up with the Recording bar and the Playback bar, the recording bar is responding when I speak. So my mic works and can hear my voice. Problem is that the speech recognizer in shoot still doesn't hear my voice. The Bar doesn't move or anything. Any more suggestions?

I have only one question, does shoot only accept english spoken commands or does this depend on the speech recognition engine of windows? Since I am a german native speaker I would love to give the original commands in german of course, do you think that's possible? In case you dont know, for total immersion you can switch off the HUD with the "del" key from the numpad! If only it was possible to set course and depth via the keys! And if only there was a possibility to ask the officers for reporting current course and depth, there would be no need to look at the instruments, like in reality! |

Ooooh, very impressive. Definitely the way the game should be played. Voice recognition has really come along, hasn't it! To save some work, here's a profile I spent the last 2 hours testing and playing with...
http://www.axeman3d.com/SH3profile.rar Just unzip it using Winrar and stick it in Shoots profile folder, load it into shoot and then fire up SH3. It's simple to edit if you want to change the commands to your own phrases, I had to work at mine for a while. I have a â£3 desk mike, a Scottish accent and a very noisy PC so I had to tweak the phrases a little. I avoided short words like 'pause' for the pause button, since the **** game oaused every few seconds when the mike heard something and couldn't figure what it was. Likewise 'Dive' has become the easier to recognise 'dive dive dive!' command. I even got the scopes to raise a bit too when you say 'periscope up'. I am very impressed with the results, I played for half an hour with no real problems and virtually no missed phrases. You have to run the microphone setup wizard that it has, and do a training session so it gets your voice down pat, but it really works well. I did manage to crash Shoot once, but I haven't been able to replicate the error again and all seems well. Thanks for the tip, this is a doozy. |
