translated into english using Google
"Here is a very interesting rumor circulating on the net: Yo****aka Amano (designer for Final Fantasy) will be associated with Ubisoft to work on Beyond Good & Evil 2! Obviously little additional information and rumour has taken with large tweezers. You can always ask to see a sequel to the hit which had, despite its numerous qualities, not the expected success. To be continued."

Hmmm. I don't know what to make of this. I've never played Final Fantasy, so I don't know much about this guy. Is Final Fantasy any good? I'll check out some reviews...
I guess I'll approach this rumour with a sort of optimism, albeit a very cautious one. After that whole 'until April 10th' thing, which turned out to be nothing, I'm not sure what to say.

Interesting rumor... As long as the combat doesn't end up turn-based. Wink

But Ubi does need some new ideas for the game. At this point, I think it would be a good idea for them to reset the whole game rather than do a direct continuation of the original. The goal is to attract a larger audience. Take what the original game did right, and make it bigger and better than ever.

The Zelda games are a good example of what I have in mind. Compare the original Zelda game to Zelda: Link to the Past. Or compare Zelda: Link to the Past with Zelda: Ocarina of Time. Each one basically throws out everything from the previous game, and then redoes it so much better.

If I were making the next BG&E, it would be a much longer re-telling of the original story, in a larger world that's totally re-created. The story would not end the same way with the same cliffhanger. I would probably end it with a different, bigger cliffhanger just to make the fans pull their hair out. Big Grin

Really now, one thing I have noticed that great game stories have in common is that they never answer all questions. They leave stuff open to the imagination. An easy way to judge a game story is to look at the forums for the game. See how many people are discussing and debating the story.

I don't really believe this rumor. It would be great to have an awesome artist like him working on a possible sequel, but...

Why would Ubisoft hire one of the best artists for a game which they believe to be a (sorry to say this) commercial failure?

Why not? i could be that Ubisoft sensed that BG&E2 has a huge potential after seeing those good reviews and cult fans around the world..and with Amano on board, I believed BG&E2 will be more interesting and artistic than the original Clap

Beyond Good & Evil also had a lot of potential, and we all know how that ended... Frown

Even if Ancel is working on the sequel, i don't think that Ubisoft is going to take that risk. Nor will Amano.

Besides, i kinda liked the artwork of BG&E. And if you throw someone else in to work on the sequel, it won't have the same feeling and atmosphere as the original.

Don't get me wrong: i really hope that there will be a BG&E2, and Amano is a great artist. But he's not the kind of guy i expect to work on the sequel.

Amano (designer for Final Fantasy) will be associated with Ubisoft to work on Beyond Good & Evil 2!

Nooo!! Surprised I dont exactly like the style or design of Final Fantasy games. I think they look very pretty and extravegant but their more comparable to anime whereas Beyond Good and Evil is comparable to a disney movie in that it is simple yet charming and recognizable.

I agree, BG&E's arts style is my favourite aspect of it and if it looks anything like Final Fantasy 13 I may not buy it.

Yeah, I don't like Final Fantasy, so I hope this guy won't ruin the game.

If I get this all rigt Frederic Rynal works on BG&E 2, too. But Why? It all sounds like Ubisfoft want to get sure, that BG&E 2 will be a hit.

But Ancel has enought creativity. He don't need other "designers". If BG&E 2 is a bad sequel than because these stupid "designers" had rubbished this game Frown

I think most fans of BG&E 1 will be dissapointed when these two guys really work on the game. Because with these two guys the style of the game will be very differnt Frown (but I hope it won't come true ...)

I think the rumour abour Amano was made up by a BG&E fan who's still pissed off about the fact that Amano got replaced by Tetsuya Nomura from FF7 on as the main designer.

And about Frederic Raynal...according to Wikipedia, he's working on a currently unknown project for Ubisoft Montreal. It could be BG&E2, or something else like another Alone in the Dark game...

If Raynal is working on BG&E2, then i guess it means that Ancel is trying to get rid of the kid's look of BG&E. I think Raynal is going to design the DomZ monsters to be more scary and agressive, like the monsters from Alone in the Dark. But that's all i wanna see him design for BG&E2.

Amano: not suited for BG&E
Raynal: to a certain extent...

Well let's face it: What is one thing that would certainly be different in BG&E 2?

The graphics. New generation, new graphics.

I'll admit that the "Disney look" is one thing that attracted me to BG&E in the first place. It looked really different than other games out there. I don't know whether or not BG&E 2 will try to maintain the "Disney look," but I suspect they may try to change it.

It all goes back to the dollar. Just face it: The purpose of BG&E is to make money. I suspect they may try to alter the graphics style to what they think will attract more buyers.

You all are thinking that they will try to make the graphics look more mature, but what if they go to the other extreme and pull a Wind Waker? Tongue

Whatever change they make, it might not be a bad thing. Listen everyone: Approach BG&E 2 with an open mind. We won't know how it works out until we play the game ourselves. The one exception to that would be if we find out that BG&E 2 is a mini-game collection.

Hehe, I agree. When Rayman Raving Rabbids was first announced I was interested - then upon discovering it was going to be just a ton of minigames, I became incredibly disappointed.

Bahhh, BG&E isn't disney (=kiddie) look. BG&E is Fantasy-Comic look. whatever. BUT NOT DISNEY.

And no, I don't want an other graphic style. BG&E's Style is great. The shouldn't make it more realistic or alike. That would be very baaaaad.

BTW: I hope Jade won't look like the picture of PC gamer, in the future. This picture was ugly!

Obviously, the graphics are going to be next-gen. And as long as the game keeps its style in next-gen, then i'm happy about it.

I just hope that they're not going to make radical changes to the concept or the artwork of BG&E2. They should keep the original designers and make the game more next-gen looking, while expanding the gameplay.

@Jason: I don't think Ancel cares about the money he makes out of BG&E. Even though the first game wasn't a success, he tried so hard to make sequel.

@dalekpirate: Agreed, i don't want BG&E2 to be a mini-game collection. But maybe they should make a spin-off game, just to make BG&E more known to other gamers. But i'm kinda glad that RRR turned out that way, cause Ubisoft was forced to give Ancel carte blanche.

@Chiruru: You're right, that picture was horrible...

But I believe that Ubi and its investors would prefer that their games be profitable. Wink

well at least hope that Jade can make some cameo in Ubisoft games...like...ermm...the next Rayman games (if they gonna make RRR3, hope not, pls do BGE2 first!)

well graphic or not, i hope that maintain the fantasy-eque look and improve more on the gameplay and epic story-telling (not that the original don't have epic story, but BGE2 shud be epic in terms of scale also)

Actually I agree that the 1st one was too cartoony in some areas and it will need to change slightly in order to hold up in this generation bcoz lets face it, what looks good on last gens technology may not translate well to this generation.

However I hope they can do this without taking on the same attitudes to design as Final Fantasy games and without overhauling the game like they did in Prince of Persia 2. For example they could make the Hyllis town look more like it does in this picture

I think Amano could do a good job if he appreciates the style and inspiration behind the 1st game. Ancel may be a genius but even geniuses could use help.
