ok, i think this is pretty obvious for most fans on here... but due to circumstances arising on forums like PoP and stuff, i figured i'd vocalize it here to everyone. there is talk of boycotting ubisoft products due to DLC issues and stuff with PoP, as well as other poorly produced games. PLEASE DON'T DO THIS WITH BG&E2!!! poor sales = no bg&e3... we already established this with bg&e2. i beg everyone to do their research prior to the game's release and be absolutely sure you're going to buy the game for the particular platform of your choosing so we don't have issues with arguing over whether dlc should be released for one thing or not, or whether someone was shorted due to this or that. as much as i would LOVE to see fairness in all platforms, we already know there's potential for it to not happen. i hope ubisoft keeps this in mind and doesn't try to short one platform over another, but please keep this in mind. boycotting the game due to unfair releases and what-have-you only negatively impacts a game like bg&e2 that almost didn't happen because of the poor sales of the first game. if you choose your platform wisely, buy the game with pride, and whole-heartedly support the franchise, then we'll be just fine for seeing bg&e3 happen (hopefully)... we've been given a second chance, choose wisely. there's PLENTY of other games that you can boycott, just don't do it to bg&e2... it's not fair to the franchise.

While I'm obviously against any boycott of BG&E 2, I'd like to point out that the DLC issue with PoP is really having a negative impact on the community there. This is largely due to a lack of communication from Ubisoft, and what little communication there is consists of a Community Developer pointing out how Ubisoft doesn't think it's worth investing in a "minority" of PC fans. If Ubisoft uses this bait-and-switch tactic again for Bg&E 2, it's going to have the same impact on the community here. Therefore, it's really Ubisoft who needs to realize their mistake and let us know on what platforms DLC will appear before their game is released. The whole PoP DLC uproar wouldn't have happened if only Ubisoft had told us from the start that the PC version wouldn't get it.

That said, there are still a lot of Ubisoft games that will be released before BG&E 2 so there's plenty of time for Ubisoft to learn from their mistakes (and for us to remind them about it).

More transparency, yup, that would have been advisable. At the time, I do not wish to purchase any Ubisoft products anyway, so they wouldn't notice my boycott. However, I would hate BG&E2 to have any downloadable content at all, even more so if limited to consoles. But then again, a PC version of the game would have to be produced first and bla, bla, bla...

But boycotting BG&E2? It's obviously impossible at the time. The game's in pre-production!!!!

yes, i know it's in pre-production... i'm talkin about when it comes out... but maybe alot of these issues will blow over by then... besides, ancel is heading the team and he's been waiting just as long as we have for the go-ahead. so maybe he won't let some of the stupid and unfair decisions occur. i think the only advantages and disadvantages with the first game were graphics, which was obvious due to the xbox's superiority in that department. aside from the wii, the lines of quality have blurred quite a bit between the other platforms so i don't think a graphics issue is anything to worry about. it's only the chance of dlc that will be advantageous over any particular platform... so we'll see what ancel has to say about it all when it gets closer to release.

The great advantage of BG&E was that it was a very easy-to-use game. The "internet code"-option was about the only moment when you actually had to connect to the internet, in a very limited and optional way. The real focus was on the in-game-world, on player immersion. Considering this, I really wouldn't like to have downloadable content at all for this game.

Finish the game, release it when finished (on PC-DVD-ROM preferably Wink ), and leave it untouched until the third part comes out, Ancel! That would be about the only strategy fitting Beyond Good & Evil. Also, casual gamers would love that, too. Big Grin

I'm on a roll with dumb questions now, but what's wrong with having optional DownLoadable Content? As long as these things (Bonus levels, alternate costumes, mini-games, etc.) don't really affect the main game (or head-to-head games, such a player buying an advantage over other players), I can't see why anyone would make a fuss over it.
