After playing through the game for like the 5th time I noticed there was hardly any music during alot of the gameplay and most of the music that was included sounded very tacky and quirky. Now dont get me wrong I like the main BG&E theme and I love the 'Dancing with Domz' music. But those are probably the only two bits of music that I could point out as likable.

Throughout most of the game there is little to no music. Like when your just walking around the Hillys town or Black Isle mines all you can hear is a few sound effects with the exception of a few rooms, and during combat and cutscenes. I think its a shame because the environments look so beautiful but the lack of music makes exploring them a very stale and boring experience.

Whats even worse is on the few instances there is music, the music sounds quirky or really plain. Its the kind of stuff youd expect to hear in an episode of the rugrats, but not in a stylised sci-fi fantasy video-game. What Id prefer is ambient, mysterious and mystical music like you would expect to find in the movie Atlantis.

I hope if they make a sequel they take a different approach to music. What do you guys think?

To be honest I can't imagine how it could have been better, BG&E has some of the best music I've ever heard in any game.

I agree with you wholeheartedly, Daroth. The music is absolutely gorgeous, and is one of the reasons why the game's atmosphere and more emotional scenes have left such an impact on me.

My games must either be faulty or different to everyone elses because the only music I actually liked was Domz fighting music.

What about inside the Akuda bar. Didn't anyone find the 'propaganda' music to be annoying. And what about inside the Black Isle mines and caves. Dont you think the atmosphere would have been enhanced if there was actually some ambient music playing in the background.

And doesn't anyone think they could have used better instruments. I actually found it diffult to be moved by the final cutscene because intead of using nice 'echo-ee choir and string sounds they used these really annoying vibe, flute and vocal sounds.

Why did you question the soundscape used in the mine areas, then go and proceed to describe its very qualities as what you want? The sound to Black Isle is mysterious and ambient, and I'd say it works pretty well.
The pedestrian district? Not everything needs scoring. No action takes place in that area, so the crowd sounds fill the job well enough.

..Oh, you didn't like Propaganda? Opinion void.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, and I guess for you mystique, the music wasn't to your taste or how you would have done it. Personally, I loved it. I think there is a danger in overdoing music in a game with all big themes blaring all over the place. Sometimes it was nice to just look at the sea, landscape etc. and just hear the noises of seagulls and the boats. It made it all the more real. Music at those points would have been annoying to me. For me, the sound/music/songs enhanced the gameplay and made the whole experience very realistic.

I agree there were some points in the game which were better without music. But there were plenty of other points which would have been better with music. So while I agree not everything needs scoring I think that not everything needs silence either.

I also dont think it was necesary for the whole game to be 'realistic' because the reason I like BG&E is because I thought it was a very stylised fantasy.

I'm not sure if you guys are familiar with the director M. Night Shyamalan (He directed The Village, Signs etc.) He doesn't use very much music in his movies; there are a lot of instances where there is no music playing. In my opinion, it builds suspense and draws you in. I think that games tend to overuse there "awesome music" and it's just ridiculous to hear the same thing over and over.

In Beyond Good & Evil, to me, it felt like all the music belonged where it was. The main theme didn't play every time you flew the hovercraft across Hyllis, and that's a good thing, because when the main theme did play, it was like, "Awesome!" you know?

Anyways, that's my opinion.
I thought that all the techno stuff was really cool, too. It's a sci-fi game for goodness sakes, it needs techno and quirky sounding stuff! =p

And Propaganda is the catchiest tune I've ever heard, it's cool, yo.
