7.4 billion dollars. That's what it took Disney to buy my favorite film studio. These developments have been very interesting, and I've watched the animation news like a hawk for the last 3 days. Now it is all but official, only awaiting to confirmation from Pixar's chairmen next month, but it might as well be set in stone. There are basically two results that will come from the buyout - Pixar will be degraded to released a movie a year, milking and rehashing every succesful franchise they've had in the past, or we will see a delightful Disney renaissance, with the creative heads of Pixar putting the once great studio back on it's glorious tracks. Maybe we'll even see Disney re-open it's traditional hand drawn animation department. If this is the case, then maybe I'll the get other sequel I'm dying for, a sequel to The Incredibles (done for quality, not quantity, by Pixar.)

I'm in good hopes at the moment, Pixar's president Ed Catmul is not head of the combined companies, and Pixar's Vice President, complete genious and the mind beihnd Toy Story John Lasseter will be the chief creative officer for both companies. This leads me to believe that Lasseter will continue working his magic for Pixar, as well as pulling Disney out of it's funk.

I have so many questions at the moment. I wonder what will happen to my Pixar stock. I'm pretty sure it'll be converted to multiple Disney shares, but I don't want that, I was stock in Pixar, the company I truly admire. Also, what will happen with Pixar's internship programs for the summer? Will this buyout change who they can hire and for what? Or will it be business as usual. These things are always such a mess.

What do you guys think about this? What do you think we'll see in the future of these two companies?

Hmm...interesting. I can see Disney doing this since they lost their 'Magic' awhile back. What can I say? The creative minds are in Pixar but Disney has the money to make those dreams a reality.

There is no end to what the next joyful, colorful adventure might be. Hopefully, instead of going for a straight-down 'for the family' direction, maybe, with my found hope, could create a very 'Final Fantasy meets Lord of the Rings' adventure. These cutsy movies are good, but for 3-D, we need something like The Dark Crystal or Mirrormask-y...

Heh, sorry about the rant.

Whatever happened to the Jim Hanson Company? Now that was a studio!

I read about this on Slashdot...
I really really hope that Disney makes wise decisions...
like not ruining my favorite movies...such as Mulan. Except Mulan 2 was pretty funny, if you ever saw them... >_>

Some more great news: Disney/Pixar immediatly closed the new Circle 7 animation studio. C7 was Disney's new primary animation house, working on an only CG pallete. They were created to be a basic sequel factory to all of Pixar's hits if no deals ever came the fruitition. Now that Disney and Pixar are one, the immediatly ripped control of Toy Story 3, which was destined a complete failure, and gave it over to Pixar. Now this still sucks because I don't want to see them milk Toy Story any more, but at least they'll do it justice. This also means that we'll probably see Disney reverted back into traditional animation.

Hmmm, I don't know if I should be happy about this. I really wanted to see what Pixar movies would be like without Disney being involved. On the other hand, Disney wanted to make sequels for all Pixar movies, and now they leave that in the hands of Pixar. If we're really gonna see some sequels, then I'm glad that Pixar is doing them. And Toy Story 2 is still one of my favourites, but I just can't imagine it being so funny this time, with Andy growing up and eventually forgetting his toys.

I literally woke up to some fantastic news this morning. Just as I was typing about how I didn't want toy Story 3 to see the light of day last night (this morning) I woke up and read this.
It seems Lasseter isn't messing around, within 24 hours of the merger he has scrapped toy story 3. Thank goodness.

I too wanted to see what Pixar could dish if they wern't bound by the complete family-friendliness of Disney, but I can't complain. Within their boundries Pixar has delievered 6 amazing films, highly enjoyable despite being bound by family freindly limitations. They'll continue to make great films from now to forever. At least now we know their created franchises won't go to waste.

You're right, Lynx. They've proven theirselves to be good filmmakers under Disney's supervision, and I'm sure they'll continue to do that.

Oh..thank you. Thank you Pixar.

Toy Story 3... How can you even put a number to a title like that?

As long as they keep showing us impressive worlds with outstanding storylines and dialog, Pixar is a winning Ace in my book.

Now about Advent Children... Mean Happy

And it gets worse. Circle 7 had definite plans to make a Toy Story 4 afterwards. That's beyond milking a franchise.

I loved Toy Story 2, but I'm glad the plans for more sequels won't go through. It was bad enough that there was that terrible Buzz Lightyear cartoon. The Toy Story franchise should be left alone from now on, they've got two classics on their hands and that's more than enough.

Heh, I just wanted to know if it would ever come state-side, in english, and in the movie theatres. I only saw twenty minutes of it(Which I was totally blown away).

That is the kind of stuff Pixar can create. Instead of making a fairy-tale mockery(Sorry DenDen, but I have to use Shrek 2 for this one[Oh and there is plans for a Shrek 3]), they can make a true fairy tale, one that will go beyond the Lord of the Rings vision everyone has of it.

I don't mind, Jericho. Actually, I heard they're working on Shrek 3 ánd 4 and a spin-off with PussnBoots. Talking about milking a franchise... Frown

Ack. Milking franchises = BAD. They make the entire series look terrible.
It's a bit ironic because I'm afraid that Harry Potter will be one of those... they've got Harry Potter everything: mousepads, T-shirts, wand replicas... except the same thing could be said about Star Wars.
Anyways, I guess that's not really "milking a franchise", but truly milking a franchise is how Disney made sequels to their old cl***ics, i.e. Lady and the Tramp, Mulan (except the sequel was pretty hilarious), Bambi... etc etc.
I hope Disney doesn't condemn themselves. I like their theme parks and movies.

EDIT: Haha. The censor edited out 'cl@ssics.'
Yeah, that made me laugh...

Hahahaha oh man, what a great censor mix up.

I actually have high hopes for Shrek 3, I love the series so much. It's probably in vain, I don't know where they could take the story from there.

But Pixar will pull through in this situation, I'm looking chin up.

It's supposed to later on. So far, I've only seen the Japanese version with English subtitles, and the whole thing was just 2 hours of pure awesome.

It's actually nice to hear that they've cancelled some of the bad-sounding projects... I wonder what kind of movies are going to come in now though... o_O;

Regarding Shrek: I really hope Shrek 3 will be more like the original. Less commercialised (Farbucks? Come on!) and a more interesting villain.

I already know where they'll go with the next Shrek franchise:

Shrek and his wife have a baby. They find out the Baby is actually a human baby. This makes Shrek ponder about his relationship with Fiona(Wife) and about his background.

All in all, at the end, some person wants the baby killed, Donkey and The Dragon have their own little family, and PussNBoots finally meets Salma Hayek.

Bada bing. Bada boom. I should be paid for this kind of stuff.

I found that part funny.
In the movie, the gigantic gingerbread goes up to a "Farbucks" and grabs a cup of coffee and then all of the people run from that Farbucks to the one right across the street.
I thought that part was absoutely brilliant. Big Grin
