My final day of work... my final official movie review. Man, how sad it is. But first things first, Spielburg's newest film:

I've been anxiously awaiting this film for a month now. When I first found out about it, I was disapointed because it was a limited release and our theater wasn't going to get it. I came home for break, went back to work, and found out it's on it's way to our theater. Luckily, I searched up the Munich hostage crisis on wikipedia (the horrific situation the film follows) and got all researched up on it. If your going to see the film, I recommend you do the same.

This movie follows the true events well. I don't know how much of the secret attacks on the Palestinians is true to life, but I know after my research that almost all of the footage potraying the hostage situation at the Olympic hotel and at the airport is very accurate. I don't know enough about the events after the hostage situation to verify it's authenticity. Regardless, it's a good film to watch to get info on a tragic event that we missed.

The plot was very interesting, knowing that it really happened. Basically, after the Palestinians murdered a Israeli Olympic team, Israel set up many secret squads of people to hunt down and kill all those who were involved in the creation and execution of the Munich hostage situation. This was a very big operation, and the fact that they were succesful is quite impressive. The knowledge gained through the plot is fascinating.

The cinematography of the film is pure genious, as Spielburg typically does. Like in War of the Worlds, use of reflection is used to capture action a lot in this film. This is a very effective technique, and is used in astounding ways in this film. Alonst side the sweet use of reflections, there are also a lot of shots that take one camera in a long shot and utilizing zoom ins and outs to potray different aspects of action within one shot. It's hard to explain this technique, but you'll understand what I mean when you see it in action. It's a very effective method. Camera angles all around are exceptional in this film, and that made me quite happy.

The film's biggest drawback is it's length. I didn't have a problem sitting through it's 3 hours and 15 mintues, but some people may. There is quite a bit of nail-biting action in the movie, but due to it's length, it can also start to drag in between when the plot thickens. The movie is as much about the planning of the mission as it is about the execution.

Acting was great, and the characters were developed quite well. There becomes a strong emotional bond between the viewer and the five Israeli "soldiers", causing their precarious circumstances to become edge of seat.

The movie was quite graphic, though. A lot more graphic than I expected. Now that I think about it, I should have expected it. It's on par with Schindler's List. There are also a few explicit nude scenes, which disapointed me a bit.

All around, a goood movie. There are a few setbacks to the movie, but as far as presentation goes, it's classic Spielburg, which is a very good thing. It's worth seeing if not just for the knowledge gained.

4 a.m. we finished watching this movie, and then I stepped out of the building one last time knowing this time it was different. This time I won't be coming back to work. Sure I'll visit my friends there many times in the future, and I know they're going to let me come back and preview whenever I can/want to. My career, however, is finished there. that is a horrible feeling. As I drove out of the parking lot, I could not believe the slew of emotions that were hitting me. I'm going to miss working there so much. I'm going to miss being able to go anywhere in there I want to, I'm going to miss having that mysterious job as a projectionist, I'm going to miss the inisde access, but mostly, I'm going to miss the people. I may have always been treated less than what I should at that place by either home office or management (for example, it took home office 2 and a half weeks to get my paperwork re-accepted, so I actually only punched in and out twice this break. The rest of the days I didn't technically work there, so I had to keep track of my hours on my own...) but I still miss the place every time I quit, and I still gave it my best when I went to work, and now I'll miss it even more. Man guys, this is a horrible feeling. It's very very hard for me to realize that after three and a half years of employment there, it's finally over. that reality didn't hit me until I got to work today. It's over, and for better things. I'll move on, progress. I need to work to gain experience that'll help me (more) before I graduate. I needed to do this. It was a step my brother never could make (he worked at the theater as well, for 3 and a half years.) There are so many memories of working there embedded into my mind. So many memories I enjoy. Playing baseball in the parkinglot at 3 in the morning waiting on the print of Batman Begins, working booth with my brother and building toys out of spare projector parts, seeing the Matrix Reloaded 4 days before it's release... on a school night, Throwing scrap chair parts off the roof, seeing countless Xenon bulbs explode like grenades, Jumping around and climbing things on the roof, watching the air show from the roof, having two A-10 Warthog's buzz over my head by about 20 feet (literally) from the roof... So on with my life, and on to bigger and better things. I'll miss that place, but at least in the back of my head I know that the fun times aern't over for good.

I had a similar experience (I think).

I had this job as a courier. I had to walk without a vehicle, the weather was harsh and the packages were heavy, but it was FUN almost every day. Every day I had a new mission, a new adventure, enemies (mostly dogs) and weird puzzles to get over the obstacles to my destination. And the puzzles often had a lot of alternative solutions. The world I was in was quite varied and had interesting locations. Smile It was as interesting as a computer game.

When I left, I left for good, but I suddenly felt empty. Most job go with their own benefits - as a courier I could use the buses and trams for free.

Now I work in a game company and there are a lot of consoles there (that's how I played ICO). Now I can play most of the console games there; and get a lot of information for what I want to do in the future. I miss my old job sometimes when something reminds me of it, but the new job is interesting and important and I know I have made the right choice - I'm building my future, I feel well here, and don't regret it.

Lynx, what an excellent review and what a touching story. I wish I could say the same about my job. But a half year wasn't enough for me to become that attached to my job as a software salesman. I'm sure your job was a marvelous experience, but I do understand you had to move on. That's part of life. Although this was your last "official" review, I sure do hope we'll see more moviereviews from you. Wink2 Long live the movies!

I understand exactly what your talking about. Fortunatly for me, I'll still be able to go back to the theater if not just to hang out and mess around for the next few years, at least until the current management is phased out to new managers. Then I'll be forgotten, and I'll just have the friendships left.

The reviews won't stop, they'll just won't be as punctual as they were when I worked there. I'm gonna miss having the reviews out before the film is released. I'll get a few thursday night preivews in the future, as long as I'm available and they're inviting me.

This being a touching moment and all, and me like those emotional points in history where it just grabs you by the heart...

I guess you had one thing to say to your friends before you left and all fans will know this..

"Thanks for everything, my companions." Smile

They'll remember you, you remember them. Because of them you have learned and experienced much, and that knowledge is a part of you, as they are.

Oh yeah. MUNICH IS GOING TO BE AWESOME! Funny, how so many political movies are coming out all of a sudden..

That's for me! Hugo Weaving, Natalie Portman and the Wachowski Brothers are three very good reasons for me to see it. Plus, the trailers are promising.

Syriana was interesting. I didn't actually sit down and watched it, but I caught much of it when walking by to do things. Looks good, but looks very political. This could make me hate it, but who knows.

It is more pro-israelian, but it is not based off of bias. It follows the true events of the retaliatory response, hense it's bit of pro-israelian. It follows history, so that's it's only reason.

And sometimes we're totally left in the dark about certain movies *cough* Corpse Bride. I may have seen it a dozen times now, but I'm still pissed about it that they didn't show it in the cinema.

Such a disapointment, I'm sure. However, the movie is released on DVD in 11 days, is that the same over there? If so, I expect you to challenge me to number of times watched after it's bought! I plan on waking up early to pick it up, and watching it several times throughout the day, just like I did with the Incredibles.

I already have it on DVD, not legal of course. But I accept the challenge. I'll buy the original DVD and then we can let the battle begin!!! I'll be happy to watch it over and over again.
