So I must have watched the full HD version of the trailer about 20 times now. It's very obvious that they are taking a new art direction in BG&E 2. That's not just because it's "next-gen." They could have had amazing graphics while still maintaining the old BG&E look. But they are clearly going for a more realistic approach. We don't get a good look at Jade in this trailer. But notice Pey'J's magazine cover. That gives you a better idea of what the human characters will look like. Realistic.

And I think it's the right decision (as long as Jade's lips are still green). BG&E was a great game, but it obviously didn't sell as well as they would have liked. For the sequel, they must take it in a new direction. And I really like the little bit that I have seen so far.

But now the next thing that comes to mind: What to name the game? Notice that absolutely nowhere does Ubi call it "Beyond Good & Evil 2." I'll bet it's getting a new name. And I think that's the right decision also, because honestly, "Beyond Good & Evil" wasn't really the best name for the first one.

Ohh, I can't wait for more information to come out! E3 can't come fast enough!

I just hope Jade doesn't lose her personality. That was one reason I loved the first one so much.

It has to be called Beyond Good & Evil 2.

Everyone knows that Jade/Pey'j, Hyllis, Alpha Sections, Domz is Beyond Good & Evil.

Jade will keep her personality if they use Jodie Forest again.

Yeah, Jodie Forest should definitely return as Jade's voice actress.

About the title, Beyond Good & Evil, that was the main reason i bought this game. It made me wonder about lots of things in the game itself, it attracted me, it made me buy the game and see for myself what this game's all about.

Personally, i think it's best if they keep that title and add something extra to it. For example "Beyond Good & Evil: ???..." (if you know what i mean Big Grin ).

Also, did anyone notice the bandages around Pey'j's left arm...?

I agree with darkenega. I'm obsessed with the gray area in people and their ideals. The idea that good and evil aren't really all that different and it's simply a matter of perception. So the title for me is kinda crucial. It shows a level of maturity that I didn't really expect the title to live up to but was pleasantly surprised when it did. I think they should just add a sub-title like they did with Pirates of the Caribbean.

Then it would have one of those really long titles that people make fun of. For game marketing, the shorter the title the better. Notice how we refer to the game as "BG&E." When someone who is not familiar with this game hears us say "BG&E," they don't know what game we're talking about.

As I said in the sticky, if Ubi wants to make a large profit, then they're probably going to have to make the franchise look like a new one to those who didn't play BG&E, and that means a change of name. If the Ubidays site is anything to go by, it looks like Ubi's going to pretty much completely pretend the first game didn't exist, because if there's one thing this franchise definitely needs, it's new customers.

I don't personally like seeing numbers in titles anyway, it looks tacky. Like if you called The Return of the King 'Lord of the Rings 3'. Indifferent

Xeiqu: You are right. In fact, one idea that I posted about a few weeks ago was to do a complete series refresh for BG&E 2. Where they pretend the first game didn't exist, but take the original story and then improve on it. Kind of like how some of the Zelda games have done.

When designing a game, first for foremost they have to think: How do we make it sell? Those of us who were attracted to buying the first BG&E are not the perfect example of the average gamer.

Designing BG&E 2 will be tricky. They will have to make it appeal to the mass market, while at the same time please the fans of the original game.

Change the name? R u crazy? The greatest thing in the game is its title!! My wishes are:

1. Don't change ANYTHING in the game universe, charcters and the STORYLINE! Plz continue the story from where it ended! Don't start it like PoP WW! Plzzz.. As for the graphics style, I'm sure Ancel will take the best choice in that matter

2. Make the biggest advertising campain you can make, don't make the same mistake

3. Release it before or after any other big title with atleast 3 months period, I mean, I know I'll buy it no matter what other games are released at the same time, but I'm sure that many other gamers will have to choose 1 game, and they might not go for BG&E, sad but true..

4. I know it's hard to ask, and I said it before, but throw a collectors edition that have both parts with some cinematics, artwork and interviews, and throw it with a special price, I'm sure everyone will buy it

At last, I need to ask every BG&E fan a favour: let's help Ubisoft advertise the new game, tell everyone you know about it, and if they don't know it, make them buy the 1st one and play it, don't stop talking about it until it gets ingraved in their heads Winky

We are getting a squeal people!! Yooohooo

Exactamundo Smile That's how to make BG&E more known to the public. Don't change the title, the storyline,... only make the game's graphics next-gen and improve the gameplay.

And if Ubi does some decent marketing, everything will be fine. Then Ancel's bound to make a fantastic sequel and finish the BG&E trilogy.

About the long title... aren't "Prince of Persia: The 2 Thrones" of "Lord of the Rings: Return of the King" long titles too? Beyond Good & Evil is an attractive title, and the second part will make it even more interesting. Fans will probably refer to BG&E2 with the second part of that title, like Xeiqu said.

The HD trailer that we have all seen is pre-rendered. It's not in-game footage. So we can't really comment on the art direction for in-game graphics.

That said, I'm really excited that it's finally announced, even if it seems likely that it won't be until 2010 that it will actually be released (think how long it took for Twilight Princess to come out from the first announcement to the actual street date - TP was announced before the Wii was).

I am, however, disappointed that it won't be on the Wii. I'll just have to get the PC version, I guess, as I have no intention of getting a PS3 or XBox 360.

It was rendered with the game engine, and is absolutely based on in-game graphics.

Did they actually say that at Ubidays? It looks pre-rendered to me.

It was stated by Yves Guillemot, the CEO of Ubi himself.

Ok, I stand corrected. It will be interesting to see how everything takes shape in the months (years?) ahead.

That makes me curious. Could this be a hint at an episodic series as opposed to a full blown sequel? Granted, this might be a large leap in logic but I wouldn't rule it out.

Hey, if they announce that it was episodic, then I would not be surprised. A lot of games are going episodic now days. But few do it well.

I somehow don't think that Ubisoft will take the risk to make BG&E episodic.

The risk of a repeat of the original would be a gamble.

If BG&E2 does well - then perhaps they could consider the 3rd part as was intended.
