Something I just realized: Michel Ancel is... missing.

Most of my last hopes of ever seeing a BG&E sequel were lost when I heard of Rayman Raving Rabbids 2. I haven't been thinking of BG&E for a while now, but every so often it comes back to my mind and I look around the net... just checking...

But I came across an article on Wikipedia, and one particular paragraph caught my attention:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michel_Ancel

quote:
On April 5, 2006, Ubisoft announced Ancel was leading the development of the fourth game in the Rayman series, Rayman Raving Rabbids, for the Nintendo Wii. [3] The game began production in early 2005 and was released on November 15 2006 for the launch of the Wii. However, Ancel was notably absent from the project after its E3 announcement, and he has made no public appearances regarding the game after the development team switched focus from a free-roaming platformer to the final minigames format shortly after E3. It is rumoured that he bailed out from the project and hasn't been heard of ever since, as October 2007.

Curious... I checked the game credits for Raving Rabbids, and sure enough, Ancel does seem to have a limited role:

http://www.mobygames.com/game/wii/rayman-raving-rabbids__/credits

He is only listed under two sections:

  • Based on an original world by
  • Character Design

OOooohhhh, I know. He only had a limited role in Raving Rabbids because he is actually spending most of his time working in secret on a game called Beyond Good & Evil 2. Surely that must be the answer! Wink

I was already expecting u to said that! Ya, hope he's in a secret island doing his top secret project, BG&E2 and then came out with a bang at E3 2008!

I had a post on this very subject as well. Michel Ancel just seems to have dropped off the face of the earth! I know he won't have anything to do with raving Rabbids 2. he's a professional who needs to work and make money, so he has to be working on something, presumably for Ubisoft. So... the real question is: Beyond Good & Evil 2 or something completely new. I have a feeling we will find out some time between now and E3 next summer.
If it's BG&E2 they may want to make a spectacle of it, AND the first one all over again.

I imagine he's disappointed that the work for his platformer got turned into a party game as well.

According to Nintendo Power and other scources he's left Ubisoft and is now working on a project that 'means alot to him'. I optimistically take this to mean he's working on a BG&E sequel but its probably unlikely.

I wouldn't blame him for being 'absent from the project' considering how the 'project' turned out. I cant believe Ubisoft would let a decent franchise stoop so low with that Raving Rabbits game. They seem to be loosing the plot lately. I bet Micheal Ancel had little to do with that Raving Rabbits abomination which is probably why he left both the project and the company.

The rumors that he has left Ubisoft are, to me, not something I want to hear. Ubisoft owns the IP rights to BG&E, so if Ancel leaves the company, the chances of there ever being a sequel are next to zero. And if one does appear, Ancel won't be involved, and so it will be a sequel in name only, and not a sequel in spirit.

I don't think I want a BG&E2 that is not headed up by Ancel.

Intelligent responses welcome, flames will be met with marshmallows.

Lets get one thing clear: The rumors that Ancel has left Ubisoft is pure bull****, and even more so is the statement that Nintendo Power has reported this. Don't make up more rumors then there are.

Merci Ubisoft!

Actually your right I apologize. He's just been absent from the rayman raving rabiits project and hasn't been heard from for a long time(according to wikipedia). Also I too would prefer no BG&E sequel to a sequel without Michel Ancel.
