I have just bought this game over eBay so when it arrives I'll put my opinions up, looks set to be awesome. Especially if the reviews are right and they can create characters we care about as much as Jade.

I was hinking of buyying this but I dont know. Im someone who generally like adventure, roleplaying and fantasy, but when I look at screenshots and trailers for this game, it just doesn't seem very clever or stylish. In fact it seems like the complete opposite to beyond good and evil to me.

The Longest Journey (part one of the trilogy) is better than Dreamfall in just about every way in my opinion, it has a better storyline, better character development and it doesn't have the horrible action elements. If you can live with the outdated graphics I'd definitely play TLJ first and then consider getting Dreamfall. It's difficult to compare Dreamfall and BG&E, I'd rather compare it to Fahrenheit/Indigo Prophecy and in that case DF is easily the better game.

I've actually gotten quite interested in this game recently (and Fahrenheit, actually). I'm looking forward to playing it. I looked for it today at the EB I frequent, but they didn't have it, so I'll place it on my next Amazon order!

The story of the game is grand-- it spans across a large area, and it does seem to populate the world well with interesting characters, but honestly, I felt the same way at the end of Dreamfall as I did at the end of TLJ. I felt led on unnecessarily, and fully aware that I was playing a game. There was no immersion for me because there were so many frustrating or otherwise distracting things to let me just play. The whole experience suffered because of it in my opinion.
There is a LOT of talking in both games, which can be a good thing in certain contexts, but I got the feeling in these games that the dialogue was there because they didn't have the time or the budget to be able to give the audience anything else. It was filler, in other words. Let me say this about Dreamfall, as well, because someone had a question about the gameplay. It really is as a lot of the reviews have mentioned. The fighting system is poor, the messenger girl aspect of much of the game gets old quickly, and even the puzzles aren't much to get excited over. The only redeeming thing about either game in my opinion is the art design and the characterization. |

That's odd since I fully agree with that if you're talking about Dreamfall, but TLJ on the other hand was a totally different experience to me. It's one of the few games that really managed to make me forget I was playing a game.
I'm going to have to disagree on that, since the dialogue was a crucial part in the character development especially in TLJ. A TLJ with only half the dialogue would only be half as good in my opinion. The problem with Dreamfall, in my opinion, is that it feels much more like an interactive movie than TLJ did. Not because of the puzzles (which were arguably better in Dreamfall although a bit too easy), but because of the character interaction. In TLJ you had to think about what to do and who to talk to, while in Dreamfall you were always told who or where to go so you just needed to go there and trigger the next movie. In the end both games were just as linear but Dreamfall lacked the immersion TLJ did have. |
