Ok ladies, gentlemen, pigs, and rhinos.
Important piece of information I need to know now. If there was a BG&E mod, what program should be used for it?(Half Life Source or the Original Half Life? F.E.A.R. or Unreal Tournament 2004? etc.) Also, do you have any experience working with mod tools of any kind? All this would definitly be of some use... for what? Reply with the correct answers and you'll know why. But you probably know already what I plan(or want to plan on doing..).. "Using No Way as Way; Using No Limitation as Limitation" -Bruce Lee |

I believe I may know the answer... Dare I say, BGE machinima?
I heartily recommend you use HL2 and the source engine to embark on such a project, for numerous reasons. It's entire, and I do mean ENTIRE software development kit is available for the user for free. This means level creation tools, model creation tools, animation creation tools, prop creation, expression and lip synch, posing, texturing, it's all there. It's amazing what VALVe gives back to the consumer. (maybe to make up for their horrid handling of release dates As far as I know, no BGE mod exists, but I'm pretty sure one was started for HL1 a little over a year ago. ***************************** Through Jesus Christ, he has made me FIREPROOF My website, It's Rigged! wohoo, a BG&E Mod for HL1/HL2 would be very cool ^^. Anyone know Ofp? (Operation Flashpoint), that's a great game too. It's very adapted for Mods...

Yes! Exactly what I was thinking! Source SDK would definitly work since its the most popular of the Mod Creation programs. With all of those benefits you stated, we can create a full-blown mod! But first, let us see if we can create a basic HL2 Now, since I have the power equipment, I can actually help on this map making! HA ha! Now, is there any way that we can contact the fellows from the HL1 mod or is anyone else have the same experience or would like to help out in this endeavor? Actually, that's not true. You can make a third-person mod, racing mod(Hoverboat races anyone?), or anything else you can think of.
They did it with Half-Life. We can do it with Half-Life:Source. "Using No Way as Way; Using No Limitation as Limitation" -Bruce Lee |

I think, that's no problem, because i know a HL2 Mod where you can race with the HL2 hovercraft ----- "Look, all I know is what they taught me at command school. I searched for a good 15 minutes for that mod... I could have sword I remembered it. It must have been a beautiful dream. I can't find anything on it.

"Lost...in time...like..Tears..in the rain..."
-Roy Batty It is alright. But if there was a mod, what would it consist of? Would it be a Hovercraft racing mod? An alternate take of Hillys? Or just a first-person single-player 'ride' where players join Jade on her quest for a certain picture that was not seen on the console versions because it was too 'adventurous'? I definitly would like to get a CS:Source map at least of the Lighthouse. CTs start at the Hangar, T's start at the Lighthouse rooms, hostages in the kids' rooms, all looking like Fehn, Zaza, and any other two. Yeah... Oh yeah, good old OFP. It was so revolutionary, ahead of it's time. Computers just could not handle the game. Had some great memories of it's multiplayer, tho.
CS:S lighthouse map would own. It sounds like a solid idea, but changes would have to be made. There needs to be more than one route to the lighthouse, a single direction assault would be no good. T's could snipe off the top tho, hostages in Jade's room maybe. Maybe and underground passage to the lighthoues from the hanger would be good... accessed by opening the panel and inputing the number from pey'j's shoes. That would rock. Maybe open up the area where the beluga is, then walk a tunnel from there to that little area where woof sleeps. And maybe a bridge from the hanger area up and around to the "yoga rock" by the tree from the intro. Those would be some nice alternatives, given the limitations of the map area of the lighthouse. If the map would ever become a reality, I would see that a certain amount of care and attention to detail goes into it. I've seen so many user made custom maps for CS:S, and so many of them look like garbage. Big blocky surfaces using the same stretched out nasty texture. Details necesitate such a project if it's to be a good map. And we could take advantage of source engine's capabilities with the map: glass all around the top of the lighthouse for intense shatter effect during shootouts, and HL2's perfect looking water system for inside the hanger. And finally add the physics system I wished so much for back in my good old HL2 topic. ***************************** Through Jesus Christ, he has made me FIREPROOF My website, It's Rigged! Lynx! Are you pondering what I'm pondering?!
You, Me, whoever else wants to be involved... We can create cs_lighthouse! We can make it a reality! Dude, let's do it. It's gonna be hard for me since I'm kinda iffy on the mapping(Only a 2 week beginner), but let me see if I can show you a simple map of mine. My first map. Dm_fourrooms. Still needs to be tweaked up a bit but it is just getting me started on room creation and how to plot stuff. I wanna learn how to make boxes round and how to place glass cause I wanted so bad to put glass where the G-man is at! Oh and placing the skybox, using lighting better, and how to mess around the geometry are definite necessities. "Using No Way as Way; Using No Limitation as Limitation" -Bruce Lee |

I'd love to, mapping has always had a soft spot in my heart since I first started toying around with HL's hammer software, creation is just so fun. (and this love goes way back to the NES days, with a game called Monster Truck Rally, where you could design and race on your own tracks.)
Time, however, is tight for me. I have a quite lax (I think that's a word. I may have just made it up....) semester this time around, but I'm trying to use the spare time to animate more than I did last sememster, and so far, that animation time has been fruitful. I'll also be working soon... Let this semester settle in a little bit, and I'll let you know exactly what kind of time I'm working with. ***************************** Through Jesus Christ, he has made me FIREPROOF My website, It's Rigged! Me too - my one and only attempt at mapping, but I still have fond memories...
Yes, that is a word. You're not losing your mind They're a lot more fun than normal semesters, aren't they? I only did one subject last semester and had the time of my life... and on top of that I managed 98% in "Algebra & Number Theory" 'cause I had nothing else to do... |

Well, this week, if I sleep early, find a new job, and eat well, I'll be able to work on at least the Hangar enterance of the Lighthouse in HL:Source.
Maybe even show concept art! Ha ha! My, wouldn't that be cool? Alright. I'm going to go mess around with it. "Using No Way as Way; Using No Limitation as Limitation" -Bruce Lee |

Lynx-0-, if I want to create a third person game, using Source, how much programming would be needed according to you?
Because third person doesn't mean just a camera; the character has to collide with the environment, climb on boxes, different surfaces etc. I'm also very interested in level design. Can you recommend me some sites, where I can download these tools and find help & info how to use them? |

I'll PM you for the links.
And level design is just taking account of everything from items, to tunnels, waypoints..things like that. What I do is instead of playing and enjoying a game level, I analyze it from the terrain used to the way a Tower formulates. And much of it is common sense. If you are playing CS and want to create a mansion, it would not flow well if you included a space station environment(with blinking lights all over the place...unless its a futuristic mansion). Just let your ideas flow with the creation. As for the tools themselves...google. "Using No Way as Way; Using No Limitation as Limitation" -Bruce Lee |
