It was announced. They showed a trailer for it at the end of Ubidays. This is how you announce things...

Nobody was asking if it was officially delayed, we are asking if Ubisoft still intends to develop and then publish it. Ever.

Development started on it so it's perfectly possible for development to stop.

So we have 3 different statements from Ubisoft now:

1) BG&E 2 has been put on hold.
2) BG&E 2 has not been put on hold is still scheduled for release.
3) We never said BG&E 2 actually exists.

Well that makes sense. I guess as usual we'll have to wait until Ancel comments on all this before we have an idea of what's going on...

A teaser isn’t an announcement, sounds daft but it’s true.

The problem is if something’s not been officially announced its not possible to establish its status as technically it doesn’t exist.

@ Daroth have you got a source for the first two statements?

Someone making a twitter isn’t Ubisoft saying anything I'm afraid (well unless it was actually the official Ubisoft twitter, but this wasn’t)

This is the thing, if its not been officially announced whats to stop them from not making BG&E2 anyway. But Gloon makes a good point, why would they go to that much hassle at last years Ubiday's to tell us about it, even though it mite not happen. Yves Guillemot even said it was Michel Ancel's, "next project". Sorry guys, if am sounding pessimistic, but Ubisoft are just toying with us, why can't they be honest with us? There's obviously a demand for the game just go to google, the phrase, "Beyond Good and Evil 2" has been queried over 7 million times.

Soulidsnake, I'm not saying there isnt a demand, or even a game for that matter (I should say I dont know either way so please dont read into that). But right now for whatever reason they're not talking about it, whatever it may be.

Fair enough about the twitter, but it was someone from Gamersyde that posted that and I see little reason for them to lie about what the people from Ubisoft told them at Gamescom. There's also this comment from Laurent Detoc, casting doubt on the status of the project (source):

quote:
IG: Most publishers make decisions based on sales, so what made Ubisoft decide to pursue Beyond Good and Evil again?

LD: Well, I didn't say there's definitely going to be another game. I said something had leaked, which means we've been working on some Beyond Good and Evil stuff, but whether there's going to be another game or not, that's something for the future.

Then we have the news posted by ShardOfTurth:

http://www.gamekult.com/articles/A0000079137/
Gamekult contacted Ubisoft and were told BG&E 2 is under development and scheduled for release. I have to wonder when Ubisoft is going to stop trolling their fanbase?

Daroth I'm not suggesting anyone’s lied. But you must understand how easy it is for a casual passing conversation to be taken out of context and become something it wasn’t. It’s something I see regularly in this job.

But as I've said before that’s not to say it’s right or wrong, just that at this time there’s nothing official and until there is take anything else with a pinch of salt Smile

I understand your reasoning kleaneasy, but the real problem here is that Ubisoft isn't being clear with us. All it takes is one official statement from them and everything is resolved, but they just keep sending mixed signals and we don't know who to listen to. This is yet another display of bad community management which I've seen all too often from Ubisoft. I'm not blaming you or other Forum/Community managers for that, over the years I've been posting here I've gotten the impression that Ubisoft ignores you guys as much as they ignore their own fans.

Exactly Daroth_343, Ok I could understand if Ubisoft were 50/50 about it before the official teaser, but throwing out a teaser to the public is a lot more harder than a simple confirmation.

I would like a little confirmation based on the mixed message, but another part of me doesn't.

I don't like games announced at E3 that won't even see the light of day before the holiday season. Similarly, I don't like announcements of games or expansion packs for MMOs that aren't even within a year of being completed. (games like Diablo III, WoW Cataclysm or The Last Guardian).

If I had my druthers, it'd just be a teaser trailer about 4-6 months before the game is ready to his the streets with a building ad campaign as it reaches release.

We usually see either a fully pre-rendered trailer or a nice gameplay trailer with a timeline and platforms ("This HOLIDAY Season . . .only on PC, X-Box 360 and PS3 . . .").

So, while chomping at the bit for a game that we are fairly certain is under development... I'm just hoping we get to THAT trailer sooner rather than later... THEN we can crank up the excitement machine to full blather.

First, I'm really glad that development goes on. I was crying in my pillow when I read the former news, and I'm a man of steel. Well, maybe not. Wink

Something like a release date... ah, to still hope that! I had hoped that by the time I need a new computer, even the system requirements would be out (yes, for PC!). That hope is about 16 months old now, but I'll have to buy a new computer by the end of the year. So, not a chance. Well, at least it'll play "Dragon Age". If it's compatible with Windows 7. ;-)

However, it's highhhh time for a new BG&E 2 trailer! We've been waiting for so long, and something official is so due on this dreamt-for game.

+1

If they just wanted to show a tech demo with the BGE characters and then go silent for one and a half year, fine... but why, why "Chapter 1"? That clearly indicates that there will be a second chapter following shortly... I mean, what the hell where they thinking?!? Did they intentionally wanna screw with us? WTF!? And now all this "maybe, maybe not"-crap? This is not a proper way to handle your fans, Ubisoft!

Bull****e, economic crisis my ***. Fact of the matter is BGE2 is just some silly project for them which was only given the go because Ancel asked them to. It hasn't been technically announced yet, so there's no status to talk about. On hold, not on hold, canceled, whatever. No need to talk about a game that may not exist. Ubisoft simply doesn't care about this game.

**** it. I'm tired of this ****.

Cuberpower, your right, I am fed up of this too!!!
What on God's earth are they playing at. I am always in hope of further news regarding BG&E2. It's just stupid, am on hiatus, let me know if any new news crops up this century.

mind your language kid
anyway I really don't care if they didn't "officially" announced the game, we have a gorgeous trailer which announces another one, and we got gameplay footage, that's all I need, I'm sure BGE2 will come out sooner or later
