I saw once on the Rayman forums scans of a magazine article on the upcoming Rayman game (it was Nintendo magazine, if I remember correctly), Rayman Raving Rabbids (this was prior to the Rayman forums being hacked, so the scans won't be there anymore). It also had a smaller article regarding Beyond Good and Evil. I think it said in that article that Michel Ancel is considering that, once he finishes on the Rayman series, BG&E may be his next big series. What do you make of that, huh?
He wants to make it, that's for sure, and I think Ancel does have pretty free reigns. However it was a flop... I don't think it'll be happening any time soon; but it's not dead yet.
I suppose they could start on a new Rayman game. BG&E2 isn't an option, and starting on a whole new creative endeavour seems unlikely... perhaps they will, though.
Did I read somewhere that they wanted to make an FPS, or am I just imagining that..?
Not sure about the FPS, but wouldn't king kong count towards that?
I think that BGE2 is the next logical project for Ancel after Rayman, but then again, I was saying that before work on king kong started. We can only hope and wait.

I'm still expecting Michel Ancel to work on BG&E2 next. After King Kong it was Rayman, a very logical step indeed. But BG&E2 now seems the most logical step. If not, I'm going over there and I'll take SOMEONE hostage, flagnammit. Someone important!
I also have a feeling that BG&E 2 may be next. This is based on little bits of information that I keep seeing around the Internet. Of course, if BG&E 2 is not next, then I doubt it will ever be made.
But I wonder just how well BG&E has been selling over digital distribution? Direct2Drive never has lowered the price of it. They still sell it at a higher price than Far Cry. And more digital distribution sites are adding BG&E to their list. Just recently I was surprised to see the BG&E box picture on the front of GameSpot's page, and they had it there because they recently added it to their digital distribution service:
To be totally honest though, to anybody who pledges digital evidence to support the theory that BG&E2 is in production; it just doesn't exist guys. Michel has been very, very clear on that: no work at all has been done on this game, and there may not be any for quite some time.

I don't recall Ancel ever giving a clear answer on the status of BG&E 2. We don't know what Ancel's team is (or is not) developing next.
hmm... would be interesting if bg&e was recreated for next gen consoles (more graphically intense and remastered)... like a special edition or somethin... with the few games out right now for next gen, it could give an upper hand for an underdog game... much like it did for that kameo game. i think it's an idea... probably not gonna happen, but it seems plausible and really not too challenging i'd think. afterall, that could cause an increase in sales and maybe some leverage for a sequal.

Seeing how much Ancel would have to do to get to work on anything BG&E related, I'd rather he continue (and possibly conclude) the story than amble with the first chapter.
if they allow him to, sure. but, i was just considering it as a means of leverage for a sequel... giving it a second chance. they already know the first one is a hit waiting to happen. it could, in theory, open doors for a sequel... but... if they let him just carry on with the series, that would be ideal.

I don't really mind what you may or may not recall, but "we have no plans [at the moment]" is a quotation (August 2005). I'd say that's a pretty clear answer on the status of BG&E2, no?
A remake of the original would be a big mistake, since whatever caused it to fail would make it fail again. Don't think the marketing is the only reason it didn't sell, in my opinion it failed to sell because it wasn't clear who was supposed to buy it. For example with Rayman: Raving Rabbids it's clear that it's meant for kids. When kids see the commercial with all the rabbids acting stupid, they find it funny. On the other hand you have games like GTA where simply looking at the box art is enough to show what the game is about. BG&E doesn't have that. The box art shows a girl with green lipstick and a camera. It's a game about a reporter who needs to reveal a conspiracy and on the other hand it has a pig as a main character. So who's supposed to buy this? The answer is everyone (think Zelda), but in the end nobody did because they either didn't know about it or they didn't care. I'm sure people at Ubisoft are still trying to figure out exactly what went wrong, which is also the reason why we're not seeing a sequel. They simply don't want to take the risk.
I don't know if it's a complete mistake. If they re-released it, there would be a much greater acknowledgment from the gaming audience, many publications and websites have raved to their readers about this game. They know the name. If the remade it, that would also give them a chance to re-market it (using the great reviews to propel it.) and re-package it. Re-brand the game, make it more concise on who it's for. If they put that amount of work into it - which I'm sure they're not willing - then I could see it as a solid decision.

Oh yeah, sell it for real cheap. Any game released on Steam, and I hear about it. That goes the same for hundreds of other Steam gamers. Get BGE on there for a small price then I'm sure you'll have many gamers. Everyone would talk about it, too.
