Well it's now official... I picked up the design and pre-press job for Propeller magazine in NZ. A 120 page magazine.

Trouble is they want me to work in their new leased offices which are 70kms away - ka-ching! ka-ching!; petrol prices!

... anyway the good news is it's only a 2 monthly issue, so only have to be there 4 weeks out of 8, bad news is it's a hassle carting my compuetr back and forth, good news is the Publisher said he would pay for the new monitor and External Hard drive and a printer if I supplied the computer.

Bad news is I like the new Quad core MacPro's - can you say NZ$7500 plus RAM Confused

Anyway I already bought a $350 750GB xternal Maxtor back-up drive and a $200 A4/CD printer plus GST. Now all I need to do is find another $3000 for the Mac Hammer

...anyone want to invest in a second hand graphic designer with lots of potential???

Wow! Awesome! Congratulations on snagging a magazine job! :jealous:

It does sound like a bit of a drag having to haul everything back and forth for that long. What about a laptop? When do you start?

very nice mr wizard. If I were you, I'd settle for a lower model and hope you can upgrade later for less

Yeah but in the Mac world that means ripping out all the Duo processors and putting in Quads - may as well just bight the bullet now and plead poverty to the tax man lol!

Laptops probably wouldn't have the grunt for the stuff at home and although I could survive on a smaller model - why drive a BMW when you can buy a Lamboughini :E

The holidays won't help you out at all? If anything, wouldn't some of the post-holiday sales help lower the costs for the upgrades? I know that in the USA, there are massive post holiday sales... is that the case in Kiwiland?

Unfortunately Apple sales means if you try hard enough you can get a $15 discount Frown
Unless I want to wait for 6 months until the new processor chips are released and they try to flick off the old ones a couple hundred bucks cheaper, but by then I will have made a couple of grand already.

I never thought of them that way, but you're right! It is a cheesegrater!

And I love the ad! I caught the tail-end of it on TV one day... but I'm glad I know how the song actually goes now. Wink2
