MystNovice, hello. You mentioned Casa Grande AZ. We had a place down there until three years ago. The wife and I were going to retire into Casa Grande so we had a house built in the north side. Right by the golf course and city park area. Neat area to move into.

When we moved in it was sort of out in the country but now the builders have moved in a filled in most of the empty fields around us. We were on the street called Crooked Stick Drive.

Two years after we moved in I had a brain tumor and then the wife developed breast cancer. We decided that two homes would be too much expense with the doctors and hospital costs included. Between the two of us we decided to sell off the Arizona house and stay here in Colorado. Those hundred plus days in Arizona were a bit too much so we chose cold and snowy winters instead. I would have liked to keep the place and travel by seasons from one to the other.

We liked Casa Grande a lot when it was mainly a sleepy desert town. Now it is starting to look like Los Angeles with all those houses built 10 feet apart and very small yards, plus high prices now. Maybe I should have kept my house and sell it now a twice the cost.

I hope you will continue to like the place. Easy commute to Chandler and lots of shopping and restaurants.

I am pretty much done with Myst games. Still stuck in Uru Complete Chronicals. I have some great problems with all the jumping through 3 ages to complete something in a certain time space. I have worked until disgusted and put it away. Then I bring it out again and work until disgusted and put it away. I may never finish it. Enjoy what you can.

Wow, we must have been neighbors once upon a time! Although, if you thought Casa Grande was getting too big three years ago, you would be seriously put off now. I think the number of homes have doubled in my four years here (if not more). As a relatively young person, though, I think all the growth is a good thing, especially since they opened the big Harkins Theater and Best Buy. Big Grin We don't have to drive to Chandler all the time anymore.

I've lived in plenty of 'sleepy desert towns,' and I hated it. I know the slow pace is a comfort to some people, but for us youngsters, it's torture. It's not just because of a lack of luxuries, but the accompanying economic stagnation and lack of job opportunities mean you either have to flee or be a life long slave to the service industry. In Casa Grande, jobs are easy to find if you're willing to work, outside economic conditions be what they may. Aye, enough ranting.

Well, it's too bad I won't see you around here, but we can always meet in the forum. Smile

MystNovice, we were down there visiting about a year and a half ago. Lots of growth and more shopping and restaurants for sure. Now well east of I-10, north to almost to I-10, spreading south and west too.

I have a 2002 Arizona map here and there is no listing for Maricopa. Not even a name reference. Look how that area has also built. It was once just a few older buildings where the railroad crossed the 347 highway.

Boundary battles between Casa Grande and Coolidge and also Eloy. That entire area is in a turmoil.

You have pointed out the difference between the younger folks and the retirees.

Younger folks like the wild eyed activities and entertainments while the retirees would rather have quiet times and relaxing.

A short hour drive to Chandler, Tempe, or Mesa once in a while was good enough for shopping and dining away from home. Travel into the traffic and large shopping areas of the Phoenix area was the excitement needed to keep our hearts pumping. Otherwise we could sit back and listen to the coyotes howl around the golf course or take walks around the neighborhood.

Even so, we liked the Casa Grande area. Very good medical services and hospital. Important for us old folks. Very easy traffic with the way the roads are gridded.

Final word is that I grew up in a small town and have lived in some very big cities. Los Angeles, San Jose, San Diego, Miami area, Denver and other large populations being a few. Even with the many advantages of living in a large city, I still prefer the smaller towns about an hour or so away from the metro areas.

Well... to be honest, I don't care for big Metro areas either; everyone's crazy there! Googly That's why I didn't care for driving to Phoenix. It's nice to have everything you need close to home, where people are comparitively sane and don't try to drive you off the road. My biggest complaint against sleepy towns is the economic situation, an injury felt most grievously when you have yet to establish a career... or retirement savings... or health insurance...

Anyway, yeah, the growth is pretty crazy here some times, but I still like it here in Casa Grande and don't want to move if I can help it. I may not be able to help it, though, when I get accepted to U of A in Tucson. That's a long commute for a poor student at these gas prices. *sigh*

Then never move to NY or NJ. For 2008, US News determined that NJ drivers are the worst in the nation. And from driving through NY, I have knowledge from personal experience that NY drivers are VERY aggressive.

I'm too scared to think back to the time I first started. I think I managed to make Captain - and for those of you who don't know what that means, it was when you were awarded rank for the number of posts and replies to your threads.

You have to go beyond that Speedy - First forum you were graded with martial ranks - of course CFischer was a General somethingorother as he invented the Wordgame and would jump ranks overnight while he slept lol!
The rest of us earned our ranks - they eventually introduced the Myst theme. You were probably about 6 years old...
